After posting wanted ads on a few sites ive been offered a few turbo golfs and so far ive narowed it to 3, can i have some input from you guys in the know please
Car 1/ 2001 yreg with 90000miles, 5 door in silver, no recaros but has winter pack. fsh and otherwise standard £4000
Car 2/ 2000 wreg with agu engine, 112000miles, revo chip,fk coilovers,blueflame exhaust , induction kit, rs4's recirculating valve etc,3 door with recaros£3500
Car 3/ 2000 xreg with aum engine,115000miles, star remap ,fk coilovers, miltek exhaust, induction kit, recirculating valve etc£4000
Both cars 2 & 3 have water pump , timing belt etc replaced , car 3 is the 1 that i am leaning towards but the guy is removing exhaust & induction kit from car before sale and car 2 comes with standard and modded parts so it appears more financially viable
please help with any coments

If you are planning on keeping the car i would go for the standard, with less miles and FSH. you can do bits to it yourself. 115000 miles might not be a lot for the engine but you need to think about the rest of the car ie. all the other moving parts.
however, if you are planning on selling in a year or so go for option 2 with the bells and whistles and less money.

I'd be less concerned about the aftermarket mods and more interested in the general condition and service history. At the age of the cars you're looking at, wear and tear items will need to have been replaced. My mk4 is around that age and mileage (im also looking to sell at a similar price soon) with similar mods + a few extra goodies and its things like bushes, bearings, seals etc that i find are needing to be replaced at this stage in the cars life. Another thing to consider is that turbochargers dont last forever, especially in remapped cars. I should know I had to replace mine already £Â£

i agree with Topher. buy te golf standard and make sure you check all bushes. as these are f**k*rs on the mk4.

My ten pence worth would be that if it was me, I would look for a totally standard one as its less likely (stereotypically anyway) to have been thrashed, and then do the mods yourself (if you want them). So to me, car 1 looks best on paper.

THANKS FOR COMENTS GUYS, THE ONLY PROB IS THE STANDARD CAR IS OVER 300 MILES AWAY AND THE OTHER 2 ARE WITHIN 50 MILES, CAR 2 HAS FSH AND A BINDER OF RECIEPTS BUT UNSURE AS TO THE DIFFRENCE THE AGU ENGINE MAKES 9other 2 are aum).
also just bin offered a 99 sreg with 75000miles and fsh for £3000 but its in jazz blue and as far as i know they dont sell to well

you could maybe just turn them all down and wait for an unmolested one to pop up closer to you.
People chip cars for one reason - to make it faster, and as stated before there is a lot higher pressures and wear rate on a chipped engine and its components. Also on car 2, induction kits only serve to lessen the restriction of air flow which lessens the filtering ability, making the engine suck in more crap thus increasing the wear on the engine. though on some cars they do sound very well.

I think the AUM engine is the latest version of the 150bhp engines, with the k03 sport turbo, DBW throttle, and VVT.
After this, Im sure the 180bhp's came along, so its not a bad engine to get (and Im not biased at all )
