hope this doesnt cause trouble, its not meant to!
i might be imagining it, but it seems theres a undercurrent of anti clubgti'ness here..
i cant say why i chose this site over clubgti when i was looking into cars, maybe coz we have more of a laff here :)
is there history?
-
id use Club GTi when lookin answers on the more technical side of things
whereas here is alot more light hearted
basically clubgti has being going for yonks so has its core members if you know what i mean.
clubgti is a good site for getting the answer you need
-
I dont think there is any real rivalry at all, but they did put a few backs up when they were against advertising one of our meets on their site.
-
yeah, and they were cheeky enuf to come advertise theirs here...
is it a vw sanctioned thing? or a enthusiast organisation?
-
Ask this one to VR6 and see what reply you get ;D ;D ;D
-
I use their forum too, when I get time.
Whats more, last year I went to one of their West Sussex meets, that John Wintle advertises on here. Had a great time and met some good people. I think you'll find we're all like minded and here for the love of VW's ;D
-
i did notice they had a meet a few weeks ago about 2 miles from my house :)
-
i visit this site more often because i find it more user friendly. lol
-
I think because it's smaller and less established it feels more 'personal' here........ClubGTI is huge and has been around for quite some time now.
-
yeh i choose this site over clubgti because of the more personal connections. i feel i know some of you on quite a personal basis even though we have never met and if i have a particular query i will just e mail that person knowing ill get a straight answer.
i like the fact that this site is also jv's pride and joy (well sometimes ;)) and he lets us all know when things are going good or bad.
i used too also post at clubgti but the fact that i got banned a couple of weeks back for moaning about there censoring has ment ive been here more where i can say just about whatever i like! ;D
-
Blimey you.........got banned :o
I had a post removed by the moderators over there once. It was because it was classed as advertising. I was breaking a Mk2 and giving the parts away to anyone that wanted to come over and get them. Even though the parts were free they classed it as advertising and removed it. I then got the hump and complained. It caused quite a lengthly and sometimes heated debate...........but I was never banned. Maybe they've got harder on people now.

Nice one Vix,I see that you are in favour of exact point that some people are moaning at, I think they should take a look at other sites and try and live with restrictions imposed by others.
We DO have a good site, lets not forget that, by undermining the literary freedom that it allows with silly squabbles
-
maybe that anal atmosphere is what put me off compared to this place :)
where u can say thingy all day long.. well nearly ;)
-
it would be nice if the main section of this site actually got updated now and then or contained useful articles written by the members on how to do things to their cars, etc. ;D
-
yup.
i was plannign to do a lil article on putting smoked mk3 fogs/indicators on, but my car broke.. hopefully this weekend :)
-
dont you have to pay for club gti??? I htyink thats w hat put me off
-

I'm trying to do something like that with my site............although it has to be said my computer skills are very limited >:(
-

Not to use the forum you don't. And I think you'll find you're welcome to their meets.......member or not.

i was going to put my article here, and on my site too..
ya could do that too ?
-
I must say it is very stuffy on clubgti, they like to stick to their own.
Beware that some of the 'expert' members on there do actually give completely inaccurate technical information.
In short clubgti is worth a browse, but don't take what they say as gospel, because it certainly isn't!
:)

ouch!
kniterider's ad for newark part2 is live on clubgti's forum but no interest.
i guess most people find one forum they like and generally stick to that one. i just about have time to keep up with this one never mind too many others!
-
I prefer to stick to this one because as said previously its a closer nit community on here.
We have all got to know each other and can relate to what we are told rather than just be shouted down for speaking our minds about the cars.
Besides this site makes you feel welcome and part of a crowd.
-
Well said :)
i would add a few swear words to that :D
-
Sheriff John Bunnell says
"Don't use clubgti" :D :D
-
lmao
is that a '6 pointed star sheriff?
-
hope its not a rusty sheriff's badge.
;D ;D ;D ;D
-

Yes,you met me there :)
-
Not just saying this because I've started using this site a lot, but I like the layout of this site and it just looks neater where as clubgti looks too busy (text and layout) if you know what I mean. I cant comment on the people on there or the knowledge of them as I've not registered on there or posted anything.
-
just to agree with gibby - this site does have something tidy about it, i dont know if its the colours or design but its a great site for moving around, maybe its minimalist but i like it - i think albo had a lot to do with that but ive not been round long enuff to know for definate 8)
-
thats the other thing, my own forum has the same layout as this one, and its faster for me to use this one :)
-
i try and try but i just cant get into the Golf scene very well. With exception to this site i just dont like it too much. I guess im just too much of a boy racer. Hopfully GTI inters will change that ;D
-
your not gonna be the same person if inters is anything like vw action fielder, it changed my life in '98 and im still stuck in the vw bubble - 6 months and your life will have a new outlook. just a hint but u will probably no longer have a girlfriend, your bedroom will look like a vw parts warehouse and your mum will be kicking u out each day but we dubbers love it ;D
-
They dont seem to know alot... thats all i noticed... ... vr6 knows em very well! :D
-
i use to be on club gti before branching off to other forums..... i found c gti to be very exile atmosphere and most people would start arguments
what a laugh utter s*** thats what most of there users talk thats alls people on c gti do! and most c gti users ---------
1. dont have driving licences.
2. dont own a volkswagen.
3. post there views and if your view is slightly different from theirs, there is a full scale war!
most of them are just gti wanna be's who are too goody goody for this world! :D if the gti does as people say it does and goes like a rocket maybe they can all get in one and go to another universe!!! ;D
-
There are quite a few people on club gti that only own drivers, and dress them up with gti badges :D
-
thats like the corsa boys .. 1.2 = GSI LOL
-
I know exactly what you mean about the CGTI forum. The problem is that it is CGTI only in name, and that's where it ends.
I have had a few cases recently where I have made a perfectly valid comment to a technical query, only to have it shouted down as supid and not knowing what I am talking about, probably by some 17yr old with no licence, car or knowledge!
There is quite a lot of truth in the comment about lack of real knowledge as well, as it seems that some newbies as for info one week, then are preaching it as gospel the next, even though it is total rubbish.
I have got fed up with all the mindless posts as well on the forum, and the childish comments that are used as replies. The sooner the rubish stops flowing the better.
It used to be a great place to get info and have informative discussions, but it seems to have bee taken over by the 'max power' mentallity, if that it the right way to put it.
This forum is very friendly and extremely helpful to people, and I contribute as and when I can to subjects that I have some knowledge about, ahving had VW's for the past 19 years, and GTI's for 15 of those, not GTI wanna-be boyed-up motors!
John.
-
Totally agree John, having done most jobs on a golf, i found myself being shouted down by some 'members', i expect you know who they are.
Unfortunately i don't like putting up with it, so i got barred for giving them the abuse they deserved! :D
-
Its the same as the RS owners club, and the smaller ford related sites, you will always get the main, hardcore members who can be a litle bit stuffy or by the book on those sites...I always find forums such as this, a better place for general banter, and theres normally someone who has attempted a mod or repair that can help out anyway ;D
Anyone up for a meet up at Inters then ??
-
I asked one simple question on that "thing" in feb
to this day not a peep. :'(
Iasked the same one on here and got two replys in a couple of hours
Thank you very much people ;D ;D
-
always good to hear that kind of feedback paul :)
bish, yeah sure we will be doing that kind of thing :)
-
Yeah Jv mate, this site is leagues above clubgti ;)
-
this is the only site which dont have the abuse factor!
brill absolutly brill...............
everythings ok!!!!!!!! ;D :D ;D
-
Well I am a member of Club Gti and will remain so. However, there is a problem in that the main forum gets spammed by some complete nonces. They are in fact the ones that hide behind their computer screens and talk tripe.
As an organisation the beauty is that it is regional, I am part of the Worcs region and have to say that it is excellent and has moved my ownership enjoyment to the next level, not to mention meeting some top people.
My advise is use the forum with a pinch of salt, and remember that Club Gti is a massive organisation that suffers from bureaucracy and can be quite political.
By the way - this is a great site, wish i had time to contribute more
-
If only everything in life was as reliable as golfgti.co.uk
;)
-
^ lmao, true.. even with the intermitent speed problems :D
