Title: Visit to Audi
Post by: R32UK on 07 January 2008, 16:51
Went to Audi garage this weekend with a friend, just to have a quick peek at the a3 as my friend is thinking of getting one and I thought I would see what the S3 is all about. I have to say I was very disappointed!!

Nearly all the switches/ buttons excluding those on the centre dash are straight out of the golf. Cabin feels nicer, but quality isnt that much better than the golf. Different doesnt mean better quality in this case. The back is quite cramped too. But i think the final nail in the cofffin for this car is the steering wheel!! What were Audi thinking???? It is a poor attempt. It felt so skinny compared to the Golf, and just put me right off!!
I certainly will not be getting one now, not matter how fast these things are... i just wouldnt compromise the extra bits of the golf for the looks of the S3 regardless of how pretty the thing looks!

and the price for all this... £33k thank you sir!! no thank you mate i will stick to VW!

p.s. the wheels are not so great eiter, and certainly dont make it stand out as a performance car.

enough said... BMW here i come

you can get different spec steering wheels !!!

What BMW can you have(or want) for that price ??? New ???

Plus then you will be a BMW driving corksucker (owning the road, no indicating etc.....)

I dont really indicate anyway  unless i really need to. I dont know why everyone hates BMW drivers... the cars are just pure quality! In fact my first ever car was a BMW 2002 tii at the humble old age of 16! What a car

I would happily pick up a used M3 instead of splashing 33k on a S3 and loosing 5k the minute i drive it home.

BMW's are more common that vectra's these days. Women love them. Some people will simply get a basic 3 series rather than get a better car just because its a "BMW".

And from what i see daily on the road, bmw drivers are arragunt, selfish and complete and utter t0ssers. They think because they have a BMW they are superior to all other cars on the road.

Says it all really !

Yeah but the M3's price is dropping by the day cos of the new model.

1 series
3 series good car if you go for a 330D or an M3 but u may as well have a mondeo if you choose any other model
5 series M5 only as the engine makes up for it looking
6 series    worst looking BMW EVER imo
7 series stupidly big grim looking barge
X3 Pointless
X5 c*ckmobile
Z4 look  unless you get the M

I agree with most of what you say gjroe. There are a couple of other motors that aren't bad from the BMW stable

Z4M coupe
335i
335D
135i coupe

Although I wouldn't buy one as I love my ED30

I might get shoot down, but I do like the Bimmers, even if some of their drivers love a bit of the c0ck.

The main thing I loved about the new s3 was one of the material types you could have for the seats, it had little squares in the material, il try find a pic!

MB went down in my books a long time ago!!! My dad's 99 plate CLK has more rust on it than the titanic... everytime it has been in for repair it has caused us problems.

I wouldnt even go there... even if you gave me one free, i would p/x it against is similarily priced BMW

I'd have to disagree with the 6 series - i guess its a love/hate thing but i think its very nice looking, plus bm do some crazy good diesel engines which can be very nippy. i can't stand the shed load of 3.18/ 320 drivers i see coasting around everyday with a smug look on their face - YOUR IN A BOTTOM OF THE RANGE CAR! why are you so happy with yourself!!!

...anyway :lipsrsealed:

i looked at the s3 but i just couldn't find nearly enough that justified the additional cost.

Why all the BMW hating.. I have almost definately decided my next car is going to be the 335i coupe... hate to say it but the Golf is simply not comparable to the 3 series BMW (335i that is).

Thats like comparing am Audi R8 with a Lambo LP640. Different markets and different targets.
The 335i is bound to be a better car because it costs £15k+ more

what is "better"?
how do you define "better"?

For example, I've just read an article in autonews.ru and they rate best engines of 2007.
3rd place: 1.4 TSI
2nd place: N54 (from 335i)
1st place: 2.0 TFSI

There is also question of build quality, design, lalala.... it is all subjective

It all boils down to what you prefer.. I am not so keen on turbo engines as they have small amount of lag. The only reason I would opt for the 3.5 BMW engine is because it now has two turbos and this reduces lag to an almost unnoticable level.

the only beemer i would have is the old 5 series e39/e34 M5, theres to much cack on them now, got a shot of 1 series and was glad to get out of it.

I like the S3. It has the four wheel drive the Edition 30 so badly needs and i nmy opinion looks better inside and out than any other similarly sized VAG car.

I also like BMW's, but would not have one unless it was the 135i, 335i, 335D. Not going to include things like the Z4M (ugly) or the M5/M6 as I would spend that much money on something different.

One thing that is funny is that when you go round the car forums, you get the anti this and anti that, Surprised that so many on here are ripping in to BMW's and Audi for that matter.

I think they call that "player hating"

Not here. My first car was a BMW! They are very well built, and drive like any car should... they have excellent engines, only problem is they are expensive, but you only get what you payfor.

I got to say I am still torn... despite its hefty price tag, and only benig 3dr you just cant argue with the snug cabin, and to be honest I prefer it to the BMW's. But as for nicking loads of bits from the golf thats just not on!!

Mind you I wouldn't complain if they started nicking bits off the high end Audis and Veyron and put them on the Golf

Typical!! I must say i didnt see the reason why they made it noteworthy on the vw website... Its just looks like a normal trim!! but having spent time in other golfs, namely the diesels.. i so prefer mine!
