Got a phone call from the dealer at 9 o'clock this morning, my car is on it's way
Salesman said it's due in on Wednesday, when ill be able to go down and have a look over it, assuming everything is ok, they'll do the pre-delivery stuff and i should have it for Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. They've got another 7 cars turning up on the same transporter.
One thing the salesman mentioned on the phone was that it didn't get the winter pack
I decided to add this about 5 or 6 weeks after i placed the initial order on the 29th Oct, which working on an expected 14 week wait would still have been in plenty time but for what ever reason VW must have got their finger out on the run up to Christmas and it was too late.
I spoke to salesman a few times after i ordered the car and after i added the winter pack to see if he had any news but he had nothing through about build dates or expected delivery until he got a call this morning to say the car was on it's way!
It also appears the car has been fitted with parking sensors, even though i never asked for them  If they are indeed fitted they're not going to cost me anything but it's a little annoying as i didnt want them, granted they are pretty discreet but still... I dont know if i could or would even want to reject the car because of this, more than likely they would offer to fit a new bumper and switch the beeper off?
I think i'm probably best to use it as a bargaining point and see how much i can get off the price of the car, they might be quite handy if the Mrs borrows it

super! they fit parking sensor for free and you still want to push them for more because of that free gift

Hey, if you dont ask you dont get
-
You dont want parking sensors?!?!?!
IMHO I think they are a god send and I think if every car had them it would stop people damaging other peoples cars in carparks when reversing etc etc.
Its a bonus in my opinion, nothing to reject the car about, if you had ordered somthing and it was missing, then you could argue for some compo.
-
parkign sensors are good for women but they make your bumber look a right dogs dinner (granted it would be even worse if you smacked your bumper into something)
-
I know they could prove handy at times but it's the fact they mess up the look of the bumper that bugs me, but on a black car they should be pretty discreet, i hope :undecided:
At the end of the day if it really bugs me that much i can always look at getting the bumper changed, it's not like i asked for a 3dr and got a 5dr it's only a bit of plastic. Dont know whether to push for this when i go to look at it, or at least get the cost of doing that off the price?
-
They are really flush actually with the bumper and are not that noticable, not enough to reject the car to be fair.
-
You want a bit more off for them not putting the winter pack on too
-
To be fair it wasnt their fault about the winter pack, they put the amendment through when i asked them to but unbeknown to them the waiting list was no longer 14 as VW had made out and i was past the point of being able to change the spec. The dealers weren't aware of the 5 week reduction in waiting time.

I'd be pretty gutted if my car turned up with parking sensors on because I think they look hideous. Anybody that truly needs them shouldn't really be driving anyway!
Apart from the number of doors, parking sensors are the one thing I'm really fussy about!
-
Well there's still a chance it could be a mistake on the paperwork, time will tell.
Unlike the number of doors the bumper could be changed if i really dislike them that much.

Is it an Edition 30? If so I wouldn't worry about the winter pack, it comes with heated seats & low fluid light anyway, and if you have xenons you get the washers too. I was going to get the winter pack on mine until I realised those few hundred quid were only going to get me heated washer jets!!
-
No it's a std GTi, it's got xenons though so it'll have h/light washers and if iirc the Gti has heated mirrors anyway, heated washer jets are a bit pointless anyway imho if you dont have enough screenwash to stop the water freezing in the pipes/nozzels it'll only freeze again when it hits the window. Heated seats would have been quite nice this time of year but the majority of the time they wont get used, i've lived without them till now so i dont suppose i'll really miss them, saved me a few hundred quid too.
Been having a look at some Gti's for sale on pistonheads, seems to be a lot of them with parking sensors, on a black car they're pretty subtle looking really. I'm sure when i see it this minor quibble will pale into insignificance

getting parking sensors for free is brill IMO! they are very subtle, especially on darker colours. Enjoy the new motor when you get your mitts on it!
