Post by: forzanerazzurri on 24 March 2004, 04:04
i get a 1 (upside down U) 02   on my display when i start my mk3 diesel.   i also cant go faster than 85 on the motorway my mechanic tells me my engine is tired but it still sounds fine. i also have a squeal coming from my fanbelt area, i have inspected the beslt and have no cracks or anything.

sure that doesnt read "IN02"  ? which i believe is a service schedule reminder.

what did the guy say about the squeeling belts?

and whats the mileage on the car?

plus.. just as an aside, do you know f the cambelts been done, and if other belts were done at the same time? (i had the whole lot replaced in one shot a) ..  i believe vw say 80k for the cam belt to be replaced, but its best to be cautious.

yes it would be a N then thanks a ton,  the squeal wasnt there, the mialage is 190000 miles cambelts i have no idea i just got the car,  should i do them?? are they expensive and what will that do?  i just did the timing belt and that cost a fortune.

timing belt is the cam belt..  i paid about 250 at a dealer for mine to be done.

there is also a tensioner they advise gets done at the same time.

the extra v-belts werent much at all. might be worth checking the condition of those ?

has the squeel appeared since u had the timing belt done?

.. mr '6 where ya at? :)

im not really worried about the squeal as i can fix that with some lookin around.  im worried about the condition of the engine and the lack of power and top speed.

Overseer is right, that is a service reminder.
As for the engine being tired, get a compression test done, but you need a better than normal compression tester as diesels are very high compression.
If you are lacking in power then are you sure the cambelt was done ok, if the pump timing is out then that would explain why the car won't perform as well as it should do.
What was it like before the cambelt was done?

i know you can, think its done using the MFA. it may be in the owners manual.

check and be sure what in02 means, was it showing it before the service?

OEL - oil change service
IN01 - 12 month/10k service
IN02 - 24 month/20k service

you can reset it yourself , i will check the haynes manual later.

1)Turn the ignition on and press and hold in the button below the mileage and then turn the ignition off.
2) Release the button, the display should now show OEL or by pressing the button you can go through each service interval display.
3) Choose the service interval you want to reset and then press and hold in the hour or minute button on the clock for a few seconds (the indicator will show ---- when it has reset.
4)Turn on the ignition to check it has reset...job done (i think!!)
