Lol, i drive within every limit dec, im not fast, im more of a snail.

Most of the CHEAP places are cheap becuase they dont insure mods... So to be honest, your stuff. Dont declare the mods and get a cheap quote from someone like bell? But if you crash, ouchersss are you in teh rough. Up to you really.

A years no claims dont mean $hit. Its just a BONUS. Lets all face facts:

Your going to get raped for insurance until your 25!!

Honestly, 2 grand is a good deal.

Yeah, unfortunately don't expect with 1 years NCB that it'll be alot cheaper and they'll be totally fine with the mods.

I've done really well for myself this year, 18 2 years NCB (1 year + 1 year free which they accepted) on a 1.8 driver was £720ish. I'm hoping that next year when I'm a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, 19 and with 3 years NCB they'll insure me for about the same price with mods done.

Even if a mod is just small like a back box and doesn't change anything but the looks and the sound slightly, they'll still rape you at a young age due to it being associated with boy racers/chavs/people that drive their car fast and wrap them round a lamp post.

I still think it's unfair that mods like brake upgrades and strut braces can make you pay more.. Better brakes make you stop quicker! So you don't hit that tree! I can understand roll cages though.

Try www.bell.co.uk mate
Got a fairly good quote with them for my daily mk4 1.6
Add your parents on as named driver and the price will come down

Got a quote for my GTi for mods with one years no claims and its not too unreasonable

Check it out

Just to show you roughly the difference between a 25yr old and 17yr old's insurance...

I passed my licence 31 Oct 2007 got my first car 10th November, turned 25 on 11th November and insured 11th November (yes I know I was a late starter but never needed a car before I had a baby!)
£796 on a MK 2 Driver

Dec on the other hand is 17 passed his licence on 7th December (or something like that) and pays £1800 for the same year & model car

Gotta love being 25

i think more than let you go on some family members policy and you still accrue NCB.

I think in fairness insurance is going to be high for the first few years of driving. It gets better promise.

Best start off with a little car. Little engine etc. Small engined cars can be cool too.

Agree with Neatly my son and daughter have just started out and we
new insurance would be high, so until they get there 2 yeras no claims under there belt
they got a cheap plain ford car each 1.1L to knock around in with money in there pocket to go on
holiday with their mates as insurance is only £900
when they get to 21 with 3yrs no claims then we get them a newer car.

£1500 on a 1.3 sh!t.

I'm 18 first car is a 1.3 mk2 I'm paying around £830, 3rd party. Why would you bother with fully comp. on such a cheap car, not really worth it. the extra you will pay for fully comp. would be about the same as the cars worth. Now you could either DEFINITELY pay that extra. Or just pay it if you crash, I know which one I'd rather.

I'm with FootmanJames and have a classic insurance policy. which makes all the difference.

Have to say in most cases it gives a significant saving, and it's surely not fronting if you're the policy holder and you're insuring them for an eventuality of them driving your car!?
