Hi all
Need some help now i dont know if its me being stupid but i bought some Mk2 Wishbones with the powerflex bushes already fitted, what i want to know is are the wishbones sided?
Also if i lay them down as they would be on the car as shown in the picture then it appears that i end up with one of the rear bushes being upside down. Is this correct? I have been told by the supplier that this is normal on a mk2 for one wishbone to be upside down.

no mate it doesnt matter which side you use, just remember to lower the subframe slightly to slide them in, you dont have to completely remove the subframe mounting bolt. as for the wishbone not entirely sure but i cant imagine it would make any difference as they are symmetrical on both sides.
-
mmmm i see what you mean, i just get the feeling that there wrong personally dont look right to me and would rather have a bit more advice before i start ripping my car apart.
-
Where did you get them from with the bushes already fitted if you don't mind me asking
-
Ebay is your friend, but if you read the rest of my post you'll notice that im unsure as to them being correct
-
Hi mate, mk2 wishbones aren't sided, as Simpson said. If you're not sure though try having a look on the GSF or VWSpares websites for a comparison
Si

Yep did that checked GSF and there is only one listing for Mk2 wishbones, this is why im so confused cause when i look at them as they would be on the car i end up with one being upside down.

uh-ho, one of us has been done over! :undecided:
On the smaller side of the bush it says "Metal washer against radiused side", not too sure what washer and radiused side it is referring to though.

how are the original wishbones set up on the car? the same way round or opposites?
-
MEW : From what i can see yours look correct there laying as they would on the car and you have both of the larger bushes on the same side, if i lay mine like that i end up with one having a larger bush and the other being a smaller one . Also where did you get yours?
JAMMAC: And from what i can tell on the car both sides are the same way up

The wishbones are not sided even though they look slightly different top and bottom. The new VW one are like this aswell.
However, one of your rear (large) polybushes is the wrong way round. I will try and find out which one it is for you

Well i have just done some digging as i have 2 part numbers here the O.E. part number is 191407153 which i cant seem to find listed on any UK sites as a vw number, then there is a second part number which is 407260002. If you look on this website (which is in french btw) http://www.automotor-france.net/pdf/pieces_de_suspension_&_de_direction/volkswagen_direction_&_suspension.pdf (http://www.automotor-france.net/pdf/pieces_de_suspension_&_de_direction/volkswagen_direction_&_suspension.pdf) i can remember enough to know that Droit and Gauche means left and right. The ones i have are the 191407153 which is left but thers also a 191407153A which is right but i dont have so my ones do seem to be sided and also are for a 17mm balljoint. I have two left hand ones.
The ones i should have according to vagcat is 191407151B which arnt sided and have a 19mm balljoint

send them back to where you got them from and get your money back they are obviously the wrong ones
-
Oh believe me i intend to
-
With reference to my earlier post the bushes may well be right as long as the larger diameter washer is located next to the radiused edge. See http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85132
The part number for new mk2 wishbones is 191 407 151 B - just checked an invoice. The designation A or B does not mean left or right but can mean how many times VW have revised / improved the part. Not sure about 191 407 153 - mk3? Polo?
-
a 191 prefix is mk2.. *checksitout*
apaprently it doesnt exist.. Blodoy ETKA
-
171 407 153 is mk1 but what 191 407 153 is I dont know :undecided:
edit: if they were sided the last number (not letter) would differ for left and right.
-
Yer thiis is what strikes me as bein strange, cant find it listed on any uk sites but its on all the foreign ones e.g in that link i posted
-
Found it!
Your unknown part number 191 407 153 is a mounting kit for mk2 wishbones
http://www.gwentvw.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=13&products_id=793&osCsid=2e452c790843848dfc13a00b230d9501
The VW kit is probably a deleted item which is why its hard to find reference to it.

I think your wishbones pictured are correct, but check the bush fitment.

Ah nice one simon your a star, everytime i searched for it it just threw back foreign sites. Ok i'll double check the bush fitment to make sure, again thanks very much.
