do any of you guys know if a mk2 alternator v belt pulley will fit on a mk3 alt" that as got the groved belt pulley on

nope, mounting points are also totally different as will the offset most likely.  why do you ask? ;)

need rid of the serpentine setup because pulleys on end of crank a touching chassis

right, if you want a MK2 belt you'll have to remove the crank & waterpump pulleys, swap on MK2 items and unbolt all the alternator & pas brackets then fit mk2 stuff.
