Title: Oh No! Its obsolete
Post by: dadrathers on 03 January 2008, 21:29
Went to the dealers today to order a new trim for the heater controls since the light has stopped working and it is integral with the trim. Unfortunately it was declared obsolete by VW yesterday, yes really 02/02/2008 - pooh! So there are no more new ones to be had through that channel.

Any suggestions guys - I know I can get one from the scrappy but I wanted a new one.

There is a way to get the bulb out but you have to break things and you sound like you don't want to do that.

Sounds like you will have to get the best one out of a scrappy. I was trying to look at ebay america as I've found some random brand new obsolete parts for the MK2 going for crazy prices. However this did come up in UK:

Thanks Leon - I just did a search of e-bay and that one did not come up?? If nothing else turns up I will probably 'make them an offer'

Cheers

on ebay theres a guy called "crazyleds" he sells led kits for car switches and so on. i bought the kit to change my interior switch bulbs to LEDS. on his website theres also a kit to change your heater control lights to LEDS.

you can get red , blue, white or green which could be rather chavish. however i just went for the white ones and left the green switch filters in so my interior appears normal just abit brighter.....the only downside of course is that because they are LEDS you cant dim them with the dash dimmer.

£22 for a new panel or £3.25 for the conversion kit all you need is a soldering iron and a steady hand!

check it......

according to my copy of ETOS its still avail, not that that always means anything, try this part # with the dealer:
191 919 383 - 14.97+VAT
If not, try the one from an aircon car, looks quite cool and fits straight in:
191 919 383A - 14.97+VAT

Just an update - managed to get a heater control trim from the place Gibby recommended -  www.gpcvwaudi.co.uk. Very efficient - rang up on Friday and was delivered by Monday all top dollar. Why not add the web address to your Favourites as a usefull source of VW gear - cheers.
