Title: debumperd mk1s and the law?
Post by: its a dub thing on 03 January 2008, 17:54
i think this is gunna be a bit of a gray area and has probably been asked before whats the deal with it...
ive been drivein my mk1 round with no bumpers for a little while and 2nite i got pulled coz of a duff indicator and then they decided that i need put my bumpers back on coz my car is "dangerous"

now i dont think its illegal to have no bumpers on ya car, and i was wundering how they justify a car being dangerous if it hasnt got any..

yeah thats what i was thinkin...but the coppers where saying the towin eye is a hazzard and if they spot me again they are gunna nick me

there where a few other problem with the car like the number plate being on my dash and the indicators still being on my bumper in the garage lol

but i think 2moz im gunna put some indicators back on it and screw the number plate to the front and leave it as it is and if i get pulled again i will argue the toss...might cut the towin eye off with the air saw aswell.

As far as i am aware you have to have a bumpers for a MOT.

Bumpers are softer at hitting a heads/bodys than the slam pannel, think safety 1st.

OK for shows but not the main road, never know when some one will walk/jump out on you. Let alone the damage to the front of your car or just a bumper.

Think about it. I will go with the boys in blue. thats why all cars are issued with bumpers.

Just mu 2p's worth

think it depends on the tester. I am not one so cant confrim.

I do know the the boys in blue do look at things differant to a tester.

The joys of modding

u can drive with no bumpers and deffo pass a test

if its been removed (any car) it cant fail only if its broken corroded off  leaving sharp edges towing eyes arnt a sharp edge

make the car leagal and drive it

any problems again and he sends u to court take pics and get a letter from a mot station or a copy from the mot bible stating this is not a failure

my jeep passed with no bumpers and no lights (daytime use only) police got well funky tho lol

In all honesty, i doubt that a solid plastic bumper with a thick metal bar 2mm behind it is going to do f**k all when it comes to cushioning the blow in a collision!

Of course it depends how bad the collision is, was thinking more about bodys than cars/trees/posts ect. Contact the TRL they will tell you.
