Driving down the motorway as usual today feeling all happy cos I'd just cleaned the car inside and out, one track on the stereo finished and I heard a whislting / blowing noise coming from the fuse box area..... It changed intensity with revs, and when i put my foot on the cluth and coasted at speed the noise went entirely. Only audiable above 4k revs.....
Any ideas?
It's going into the garage on Friday anway to have the sump gasket replaced, so I can get them to look anyway, just hoping for some clues before hand so i don't get ripped off.

and by the way - H reg 8v gti.

Whats the MPG on your MFA like? I know there is a vacuum hose to the clocks which controls the mpg on the readout (amongst other things) that come in the drivers footwell behind the pedals, possible split/break in that? its a clear/white plastic tube.

Weird, the mpg was showing up at about normal (high twenties). Went into the garage for the sump gasket, whilst there he changed the oil, and oil filter - I forgot to mention the noise when I dropped it off, picked it up and it had gone!! - Surely too much of a coinsidence for it to have been something oil pump / sump / filter related!?
Anyway, won't complain.
Back in for the gear linkages, valve stem seals, and some random flange in a couple of weeks, then ALL that's left to do is the door membranes, a dash when I find one, change all the suspension and find a door lock pin thing and it's FINISHED :)
.....Well apart from the innevitable respray in 12-18 months when I've finished paying for what I've already done.
Dude in the garage is a tempter and a half though.... he does loads of tuning for his vw/audi racing team and was talking about 160bhp head / chip / exhaust packages that he could do......... sorely sorely tempted!!
