Title: My MK1 Golf 16v
Post by: SteveVW on 02 January 2008, 16:03
Bought it from a forum member a month or two back......

As it was after i picked it up......

After a wash and changed the interior to spare Mk1 cab fronts and rear bench....

Purchased some Ronal Turbo's for it.....

Then i bought a set of Fk's for it and slammed it.....

The wiring was  bit shocking to say the least so have started to strip it back and i have also stripped and rebuilt this for it as the 16v that's in it is a bit ropey

Yeah it does go well but it'll go even better when i get the new lump in it...the electrics are a pain as someone has used a mk2 16v loom and fusebox and rammed it all in so i've got wires everywhere atm and some of the connections were only twisted together

dude...i feel your pain honestly! I just keep looking at the cab and have yet to build up the courage to tackle it

I was going to do a write up but tbh i wasn't sure whether it was worth the hassle, there's always a know it all who jumps up and says yeh but no....or you should have done this etc. But if you would like one for your own reference then i dont mind at all.
Title: Re: My MK1 Golf 16v
Post by: [han] on 23 March 2008, 18:32
i'd say show people how you do it... if it doesnt work then surely all comments are constructive, and there are benefits and personal reasons why you chose to do it certain ways.

No harm... just saves youhaving to answer multiple pm's ;)

Yeah definately dude. I'm mechanically minded and can handle basic stuff, but never done an engine swap like this. Be much appreciated

Hopefully not on here. If you want to do a write up and let me know I'll then make it sticky in the mk1 maintenance section. I'll also lock it too so there can be no know it all comments and if they want to know anything specific they can always pm you.

WOW, very impressive and very professional! An excellent example of a mk1, I only hope i can build one thats half as good as this one! Have you taken it to a track or strip yet? would be interesting to know how fast it is...?

fook bad news :( what went on the engine? an ABF is a good choice but id get twin carbs which your there so you can tidy/remove/negate most of the wiring

good progress tho chap and the engine looked spanking in the bay
