any thoughts?.........
-
Im up for it...just gotta make sure i got the new car and dont have any exams during that period of time. Dont think it should be too hard to get to the ring from Gibraltar
-
Im still up for it !!!!!!!
Would be fantastic to get some good numbers. VW Gumball-style to the ring would be epical !
Im sure some people have been before and would know where to start in trying to organise this.
(Cheaper insurance means im getting an Audi 1.8T in April / May so would have to be before then lol unless you let me come in Audi lol)
-
Depending upon the date, I'm up for it too
I have a work rota to work around to get my hols, although I'm sure I could edge one or two days in either direction
Late March would work okay for me if Alan wanted to go before the end of April. Much before the end of March would probably give cold, wet weather (not good around the 'ring).
Could either make it a week or a long weekend if we wanted to arrange some other stops along the way.
-
Pick me ed30 up in march,so i am in.

I drove to portugal last year in a VW road trip with all my mates, it was absolutely amazing! We drove down through France and Spain and then to Portugal where we stayed at my parents house for a week  Road Trip's are great thoroughly recommend!
We are planning to do the same this year but go to the nurburgring on the way back which will be awesome.
Its a shame your goin so early in the year, I have got loads of exams round that time  It would have been good because I plan to have had my ed30 remapped by then.
-
would be cool but can only make it towards the end of the year; going skiing in a couple of weeks so will be skint for a while!!
you lot can choke on my derv fumes

Gutted Rhyso :(

You can put my name down. I'm good for most times of the year except the end of March and June.
You can do the drive in a day but its best to travel one day, stay overnight and do the ring the next morning when you're fresh and alert, and you will certainly need to be alert.
-
As I said briefly before has anyone been before and know where its best to start organising? Places to stay? Good deals we can get on group bookings etc?
Mods, it also might be worth moving this outside the MK5 section as invitations to come are for everyone.
-
These people will organise the whole trip for groups/forums etc. Takes the hassle out of getting money etc out of people. They come recommended from a bike forum

Might sound stupid but is there a minimum speed limit around the track?
im to skint to come so im not asking if my 1.6 will be able to go around the track in its uber-slow'ness lol

Nice.
There's no speed limit, they take a tourist bus on the track which is quite fun when you find it at a blind crest. The bus company is called FU**ER which is also terribly amusing if you're a child like me.

On a slightly different note - just booked a ferry to Zeebrugge in May for a wee autobahn blast to Monaco for the GP. We're going via Zurich which takes you through Germany, into the Swiss Alps, though some lovely tunnels and mountain passes and into France via Italy. You only have to drive in France for a couple of hours, thus avoiding Les Gendarmes and their silly fines. Last time I drove there I got fined 10000 francs for doing 140 mph in a 911. It was a long time ago but now I believe they impound your car and sell the story to The Sun. Aue, France is best avoided if driving is your thing.
Anyone fancy a Zeebrugge, Stuttgart, Zurich, Monaco then back via the 'Ring trip in May?

waaaaooooooowwwww now thats a trip and a half, doubt i could afford that!!!
-
lol yeah likewise.
-
Start saving. I reckon it will cost about £1500 each (there's me and a friend in the car). It's not that much. We won't stay in any crazily priced hotels etc. And we'll be in staying in Nice, not Monaco. Nice is good for a night out anyway.
Forget those Revo re-maps and BBS Chs.
-
No way can I afford that plus my other holidays I want to go on this year. That other website that someone else put up was doing organised trips etc for £400.

There are so many speed cameras in France! I got snapped at least ten times when I drove through last year, never heard anything of it though  As for the Les Gendarmes I only saw them once and I drove the whole country. One thing I did notice driving through France is how many of the car's were Renault's, Citroen's and Peugeot's they were bloody everywhere!!

athol,
If your heading that way why not do this:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stelvio_Pass
TOPGEAR's best road in the world title holder
-
Hurdy - i've driven it already ! I prefer the San Bernadino Pass which is not quite as twisty with more open corners etc. I love the Alps !

Another road to add to my list of "to do's"

If you want decentish weather you need to go May onwards, there are loads of B&B's in the area from about £20 a night,I'd be up for it and I'd gladly take anyone for a lap as I know the Ring very well as I used to work there as an instructor for a bike trackday company,I have done a few laps in my Golf but it wasn't as much fun as on my bike.It must be put on the top of your list of things to do...the place is awesome
-
I have an on going competition with my brother in law to see who can do the zi fastest lap on Gran Turismo 4. We are using the Audi RS6 Avant and I'm currently winning with a time of 8:02 if anyone wants to try their luck.
I'd imagine its just the same as GT4 when we are out there so I will be flying :D
-
Last time I went with friend who had learned the track on Grand Turismo. He anticipated the entry points quite well but was amazed at how uneven some of the sections are. He reckons the game designers were really soft with the road surface vibrations. He was is an Evo8 but couldn't get anywhere near me
I was driving a 993 turbo though which is outrageously fast through any high speed areas and there are quite a few of those.
-
How the hell is a game suposed to be the same as the real thing, its nothing at all like the ring... I think its so stupid when people think they can prepare themselves for it with a computer screen cus when they get over there its gona be a serious kick in the face when reality comes at you in the shape of an armco barrier and you find out that you cant drive off again like in your game...
-
I was kidding mate, calm down ! lol
-
Not talkin bout you , talkin bout the kids that you see over there that say they'v been practicing for ages on the computer and when they go out on the ring they nearly kill themselves (and others). Did'nt mean 2 sound like a d1ckhead
-
 well im going in june time. im driving down to my house in the algarve, back up to the ring and to amsterdsam on the way back, doing it with my little brother in his bmw 330d
