Hi there guys. I heard that the ED30 has 240 hp and my golf which is just normal has only 200. Whats the difference with the engine? Also the dealer said you couldnt get a manual ED30. Is that true?

The dealer is completely wrong, you can get the ed30 in either manual or DSG. The engine is different to the GTI it has a bigger ko4 turbo and different internals, it is the same engine that is in the Audi S3 and the Seat Leon Cupra. The engine has 230 bhp, the 30 extra bhp commemorating the 30 years of the GTI, hence edition 30.

Although I've not heard of a standard ED30 makin 230hp, all the rolling road runs I've seen have been 240hp+, think mine was 248hp or there abouts with only about 1000 miles on the clock. Toms spot on in what he says about the engine, as far as I can work out its only the intercooler thats different to the S3. And yes manual is available, got 1 outside.

Yup, I concur with all the above.
I had my (DSG) ED30 rolling roaded at 242bhp before a remap. I don't know of an ED30 that has had a rolling road under 240bhp yet
Allegedly the Cupra and the S3 have different states of tune over the ED30, but ultimately all have the same tuning limitations BHP wise.

I want to mod my car. What shold I do to get some nice numbers?

Sell it, buy an Edition 30, chip it and hey presto a nice and easy 300bhp/300lbft torque.
-
Yeah. The ED30 costs twice as much as the normal GTI, so I think I will just stick with the normal one for now.

I dont know if that's the case where you live but in England I think it is around 2000 GBP more which isn't too bad for the extra's that you receive.

In that case there are many paths to enlightenment of the bhp kind.
remap
full exhaust
induction kit
larger intercooler
uprated dv
high lift sport cams
lightened flywheel
uprated turbo
All of the above will enhance the engine characteristics and/or power
All below will enhance handling
Coilover suspension
Uprated ARB's
Uprated dogbone inserts
strut braces
Uprated brakes
Limited slip diff (LSD)
Lighter panels (carbon fibre bonnet etc)
These are just some of the many mods you can get (at a price) that will make your car go faster over distance

its possible to get 260-270bhp and over 300ft/lbs out of the the regular Gti quite easily, APR stage 2 remap, a filter, Milltek TBE, I know I did it with me last one, it had a really punchy delivery and was a pretty quick car.
