hi all, quick question gonna go widetrack on my mk2, will mk3 wishbones work with mk2 ball joint?
cheers
-
I think they do. Widetrack is a lot easier if you just whip everything off the front end completely though. Much easier all round.
-
I think you will find the ball joint mounting holes are wider. It is possible to modify the wishbones, I would weld on extra steel over the top and redrill.
-
the passat wishbones work with the mk2 balljoints and are a wider track

that's the monkey, i had a mental block last night, couldn't remember what set up i was using. :lipsrsealed:
-
the passat wishbones are also seam wleded and are more heavy duty than the golf ones. win win!
-
yeah they are like box sectioned, look a lot stiffer than the golf ones!
-
cheers guys for the reply.
only probs is i've bought the mk3 subframe, drive shafts & wishbones of a mk3 16v but stupidly not the hubs
so unless i do some welding/make the holes bigger I can't make the ball joint line up correctly........
could i swap the mk2 ball joint for a mk3 ball joint would that fit in the mk2 hub.....?
-
MK2 balljoints wont fit straight in MK3 bones, but they will go in with slight modification to the holes, IIRC its the middle one that has to be made a wee bit longer.
Only issue with MK3 bones is the MK2 anti roll bar wont fit the MK3 bones, but it WILL fit on Passat bones :)
Also, you need longer driveshafts & MK3/Passat track rods, and I dont think MK3 driveshafts fit MK2 hubs either!

jonny do you know if the passat and mk3 widen the track the same amount? im pretty sure the passat stuff is 16mm extra per side. just wondering as i need some pas arms and if i can use mk3 ones as well it will make getting some easier
-
mk3 arms will fit your rack, i have a mk3 rack with mk2 arms
-
yeah i know dude, i need to know if the passat arms are the same length as the mk3 arms
-
Im jsut browsing wdietrqack stuff.. not sure if youve proted voer your setup, and still need to know the lengths? i could probably tell you tomorrow, if weve got both passat and mk3 rods in stock
-
Bit off topic but which is the easiest way to do the back? rallye swap?
-
The rallye rear end is nothing like a fwd mk2, the body is different and the suspension is independant rather than a beam.
Mark made a post about using a spacer on the rear stub axle i think, wait for him to answer!

i forked out for some new passat ones on the end! it would be useful to know though if you can be arsed
i put spacers behind the stub axles but i think some mk3 beams are wider so you could use one of them?
-
get stub axles from drums..
get them machined flat, slightly below the surface.. to completely flat them..
excort cossies, forget whih, have longer bolts, 10.9 tensile strength.. put them behind, stub on front bolts through, badabing..
saw it on cgti
