I can't quite reach the wires to the front speakers (on top of the dash)... Any way to get easier access? Remove the air vent in front of it? (If so, how!?!?)
Cheers
-
Just a silly question, but have you removed the dash?
-
Nope!
A wire broke off one of my speakers, and I can hardly reach it through the top of the dash... Getting a new windscreen soon, so might be easier to do it with no screen, but preferably like to do it before!
-
sounds like is a dash surround out job
not that had work since the stereo is out already
just a load of screws and the heater controls and the switches to unplug
30 minutes max to remove- extend the wires ( they are tight as it is, i just had to redo mine ) and refit it all back in
-
Remove the small cover the shape of a slanted square and remove the screw behind it. Then take off the speaker cover. Then you need a really really short screw driver to undo the screws holding the speaker in place. Carefully lift the speaker and the cables should come with it.
-
Done!
Thats bits the easy bit  .... Its just the wires are so short I cant reach the one that has disconnected itself from the speaker!
Any other ideas anyone??

Rent a small albanian child to go down there and fetch it for you...

Lol!!!
Took the bottom of the dash of in the end... Then pulled the wiring down, fitted an extension... resoldered the speaker... And it still doesn't work properly!!!!
Ah well thanks anyway

Hi
Swap the wires over.
-
Swapping the wires over won't make much difference at all it'll just change the phase of the speakers.
-
Yeah I don't think its that... More like I've blown the speaker! Any recommended replacement? (3.5")?
-
I tried a pair of JBL 3" speakers for my Mk2 dashboard and they were too big depth-wise - chunkier magnet was the main problem. Otherwise, the fit was good. Back to the old farting speakers until I can find suitable replacements.

I had that problem with the JBL's, switched to Inifinty and they go in a lot easier, good sound too.

Sounds good.
Which model are they and where did you get them??
Cheers.

Thanks for the link. The spec puts the mounting depth at 1-7/16". That looks like a fit.

I bought JBL's and also had a bit of a problem, but nothing that a hack saw couldn't solve. Didnt actually need to trim much off to be honest..

replacement wise i got some alpine sxe i got the 10cm i had to cut bigger holes in the dash coz the originals are 8cm i want a new head unit really as its the standard unit from 1990, its mega distorted when turned up and the bass is shot!! but the speakers are working well and are good quaility when compared to others fairly chheap to £30 i think.
