Title: Strange temp led flashing problem

Right, just got this 8v digi MK2 but I have a temp problem which I am not sure about.

After starting and running from cold about ten minutes into the journey the coolant led will start to flash. Temp needle never goes up past the first thick white line (less than a quarter) so its a bit strange. Now I know the dash wiring can be a bit crap but the oil temps can get pretty high too, up to 120 and its normally over 100 whatever I do.

Coolant level stays constant with no loss so anyone got any ideas?

Go to the expansion tank and get a piece of wire and force the bridge on the electrical plug to see if the light stays on or off. It might just be a bad connection on the expansion tank(The round thing that holds water to your rad)

If it makes no difference the light stays on then there is break in the wire leading on the plug, with all things being fine you're temps are normal and no coolant loss?

 The temp sensor on a black plug near the water pipes might be faulty giving off faulty signal the car is too hot or too cold.

It might just be that the coolant level is low!

Coolant level is spot on.

Will have a fiddle with the sensor in the expansion chamber.

Well its a simple connector in the expansion tank two metal prongs sticking out soon as water rises or gets to hot it bridges a connection on a live and ground this is telling you its too hot. So when your car is running max temp feel the expansion tank to see if its red hot or about to guss out steam. Having too little water would just mean getting too hot and steam making the connection on that plug.
More than likely the plugs need some descaling or get some one to wriggle it about and see if the light blinkers on or off!
Remeber the two prongs are built into the unit so a new expansion tank is needed if the plug works faultlessly with the wire on the bridge.

What year is the car?
I will check. I think there is some sort of a water level warning control unit on some cars.

Car is a 1990 8v.

Had a wiggle and play with the expansion chamber one but not had the chance to take it for a drive yet.

Will report back when I do.
