out of all the models of golf made so far, which is the quickest ?
i was just wondering and someone out there must know ?

LOL.. well the quickest to wear the 'GTI' badge is the mk2 16v right? closely followed by the mk3 16v ;)
it could be the 180bhp 1.8t if thats got gti on it though.
what about g60s etc, they say gti on em?
think the quickest of the golf range ever ever ever is the r32, that is until the rumoured r36 comes out.

uhh the vr6 is just faster than a mk2 g60 dude.. the r32 faster again..
r32 is quoted 0-60 at 6.4 seconds, its 240 bhp :-X

quoted 0-60 is 8.3, or 7.4 seconds for the "g60 limited"
only 70 limited's were made.. wonder how many survive

Standard = VW Golf mk4 R32
Modified? either:
Max Power's job
Mk4 golf with Corrado VR6 engine in rear and Golf VR6 engine in from, both Turbo charged and linked to a 4wd system ... so 190bhp on rear wheels and 174bhp on front wheels (and plus whatever exytra the turbo gives the engines) ... and an exhaust, induction and other bits
Or, Dubsports dark green Mk1 Golf GTI with summet like a 400bhp engine in it and Corvette size wheels lol ...

I think the r32 is the fastest golf, the g60 16v is probably second.
I doubt the superchargers lasted long cos they don't like high revving engines :D

either the vr6 or the mk3 8v gti. its pretty close ;D

I finally drove a 16v mk2 today and I can truely say they are miles better to drive than the trusty 8v! to anyone that says the 16v has nothing below 4000 rpm is tlaking out their ass! it was really nice through out the rev range and had buckets of power and torque towards the redline ;D
still no turbo whistle and dump valve though

Standard wise, i would say that the 150 Diesel Gti is the quickest to 60 of all the Gti wearing badges,
If you look at the test figures that Diesl car magazine got out of a standard 150 it was 7.3 seconds to 60. Don't forget most of these run as standard 165 and not the 150 VW quote. But off the mark the diesel is quicker than the 180 Gtti, but the petrol will overtake further up the speedo.

It's true tho ... its one of the quickest GTI's ... its quicker than the mk2 16v GTI, mk3 16v GTI ... only the 180bhp mk4 is quicker .. if u go by VW quotes and figures.

Maybe, but that won't make it any easy for a lot of people to swallow!!! ;D
Take it from me, people don't like the idea of a diseasel being quicker than them - a lot of people see the diesel as one evolutionary step up from the handcart!
Ant, expect this to become a hotly debated topic!

i'm not bothered about whether the 'diseasel' as you put it is faster, but just whether its got a GTI badge or not. TDi's are quick (esp. off the mark), theres no disputing that. there is a stigma attached to diesel cars.

My PD (and I think all 150's) are badged as GTi's.
The 130 and below are badged as TDI's
By the way, my reply above was in response to Black's message, not yours. I wasn't making light of your point!

115 and 130 = GT TDI
150 = GTI

I'm sure a magazine tested the mk2 16v as about 7 secs 0-60, will have to do a search.
I doubt the 150pd is the fastest gti badged golf, its certainly one of the fastest.

Magazine or not ... the owners manual states 8.5secs... 0.2secs quicker than the mk3 16v.

Forged 82.75mm low comp (7.8:1) pistons, balanced conrods and crankshaft, modified oilways and oil pump, metal head gasket, sodium-filled valves, hardened valve seats, polished and ported head, competition bearings. Custom VR6 intet manifold, ported and shortened, AMD large bore throttle body, TEC replacement ECU, ported exhaust manifold. Hybrid KKK K27 ceramic turbo, variable boost system (0.6-1.7bar), twin Blitz dump valves and external wastegate. Custom-built 3" Scorpion stainless exhaust. Twin pace chargecoolers and polished turbo pipework, K&N filter with larger TEC airflow meter. Custom radiator with twin cooling fans. Foam filled alloy fuel tank mounted under bonnet. Power over 440bhp, and 450lb/ft torque.

0-60 times are pants and not worth bothering about, thats all the 'max' nova boys are bothered about, real men want 1/4 mile action it done this in cars but prefered it more on me drag bike, reaction time is the key ive seen some awsome cars and bikes get stuffed cause there drivers dont know how to do it, i would be up for a 1/4 mile thrash in either of mine to show you hows its done. oh yeah and mine are both 'slloooww' cars, but i aint organising nowt after newark meet so if some one feels they can sort it all out ill be there....... :P
