Title: Bonnet lid struts and stay
Post by: normanw on 28 December 2007, 17:02
Hi,

I've just revisited my favourite all time car and bought another one 16v golf of course. I've been scouring this great forum for days now and gaining some great insights (clever lot you are) someone has replaced the struts on my car with sort of chromed ones and removed the stay rod (it holds the bonnet up I seem to remember... although a long time since my last 16v) I am after some original struts and also a bonnet stay so any help would be great

Also got a 67 beetle and a 70 Karmann Ghia convertible and a scary TVR griff

you either have one or the other, the struts lift and support the bonnet whereas the stay just holds it up after you've lifted it. you may be able to get a new stay from vw, if not a scrapyard is the best bet. they are only held on by a rubber bung. the lifters probably have a little pin that slides out and then they will pop off a ball joint if you want to remove them.
