Hi I'm new to the golf gti! anyone tell me is the revo chip worth while? how much difference will it make 0-60 etc? Also what is the mk5 like compared to the old shape civic type R (before I race my mates son!!!!) without the chip
Many thanks

I had the old shape type R and now have mark5 gti theres not much in it 0-100 but in gear times the golf destroys the civic, handling wise the golfs better again so take your mate onto a couple B roads. Had a shot of a mates revo gti its rapid he was sticking with prodrive subaru etc.

Hope you are racing on a track!

Revo on MK5 GTi will make about 240bhp. Add full exhaust and filter to see 250-260bhp

Go for Revo really make the GTi what it should be, not all down to 0-60 etc its just how easy it
is to get the power down.

I had 3 Integra DC5s -

and now have this and wouldnt swap back at all :D

How does the car handle with the h&r springs?
Does it sit much lower to the ground?

Stunning cars you have there Rob. I'd prefer the DC-5 tho  Was going to get one instead of the Golf. Oh well, i'll have to get the JDM type-r next, unless i dig out enough money for the GTR

You would slaughter a CTR whether it is the old or the new type if you had a GTI remapped.

Don't be drawn into the CTR philosophy of high revs - They have Fcuk all torque and you have to rev the nuts off them all the time to get any kind of momentum out of them that is meaningful. The lure of high revs soon wears off once you've had to drive in one for 5 hours or so with the wail of the engine straining your lugholes

The older Type R's are light compared to their competition, so therefore the comparative power and torque defecits are not really an issue with times, speeds etc.

The current and previous UK CTR's with a full exhaust, filter and unichip will get 230bhp, and that makes for a 14 second 100+mph 1/4 mile.

Yes, but in-gear performance is still rubbish when you compare it to a turbo car. I understand the "lighter is better" thing, but it still doesn't make up for having to get to over 4.5k revs before anything reasonable happens and the noise is still something I couldn't live with personally. Gearchanging to keep momentum and in the powerband is more of a chore after a while in the CTR. I'd rather cruise on a torque band in a turbo car any day (I'm a bit lazy that way :embarassed:)

The old facelift type r was a good car but for day to day driving it was to much hard work as your always dropping down the gears to get full power between 5800rpm and 8500rpm, and the cabin noise .so much easier in the golf.

Yes the high revving engines do tire, especially so if the car is ur daily transport to work etc. I had a rx-8, i soon got sick of dropping down a gear or two, so i can be above 6krpm to climb the incline on a motorway, hence the reason i got the GTI. However, i'm finding the GTI to be too comfortable and refined lol, so at times i'd miss the high revving engine.
However, i think a high revving NA car is much better around the twisties (used to go to alot of meet days over at the lake district). Linear power and lack of torque meant it was easy to get power down, esp on rwd car. Granted its my fault i've remapped the GTI, but pulling out of corners in anything less than 3rd gear in this weather equals violent axle tramp.
To sum up for me, quiet twisty road, give me high revving NA engine.
Motorway, commuting road, i'd have the GTI, much quieter and less tiring upon reaching destination.
