3.5" for my mk2's dash

6x9's for the parcel shelf

My mate got those 6x9s from halfrauds for £59.99 and they seem good but is there anything that can handle bass better for around £40-£50?
Not sure if those 3.5" speakers are anygood but they look ok and are cheap enough to try out and cannot be worse than the standard ones!
Cheers guys and happy crimbo

dec dont u have a sub??
if so 6x9s will fight with the air in the boot, sure more people will post more abt this
i would go for the best componant set up can get in the front, tweeters in dash and get some decent speakers in ur doors, will sound much better
-
If you really want 6x9's you can cut a hole on the parcel shelf can't you? Make one out of MDF then cut a shape out, like a semi circle or something at the boot end. I may be wrong but this is how a mate has his mk2 setup and its a pretty good sound.

Oh right :undecided: I want some sound in the back though aswell and wiring speaker cables to the doors doesnt look easy so i was hopeing to stick to the standard positions tbh.
Is wiring to the doors hard as i dont have the door pods?
I never thought about them using the air together
-
hello mate and happy xmas.....
not sure on the wiring but its quite easy, when u open ur door do u have a rubber tube that links door to car, where central locking goes?? just gotta feed it through there, door card comes off easy too...
ive just up rated my 6x4s with some rockford fosgate ones and id say i gotbalanced set up
-
Happy xmas too mate
I dont think i do have the rubber tube. Dont have central locking :embarassed:
I know there is a rubber bit in the side of the door that looks like it could be used to put a cable through and im sure i could get some tube stuff to put there. I think i'll give it a go and see what happens.
Cheer bud
Wont be online for the rest of the day so have a good 'un!
-
if u go to scrappys most of them will central locking will have them, u should be able to do it all in an afternoon at max, remember u want best sound at front as thats where u are, well thats what ive always done....
-
Yea i do like having good sound in the front. At the moment ive got most of the sound set to the back (fade balance on the head unit not more speakers) and this seems good because if i turn the volume up, my dash speakers start poping
I quite like having bass at the back and clean sound in the front and i guess the 6x9s are just for the rear passengers to hear some music rather than just hearing bass (as my mate has in his car, only has a sub in the back and front door speakers)
Thanks for the advice mate, im going to get some of the door pods from ebay and have a go at wiring door speakers before buying any speakers to go there if you get me lol got some pioneer 5.25" speakers i could test if it all goes well
Cheers bud

dec i believe vw still sell the door pods, and i think they are cheaper than most people think....
worth a try as ebay ones sell way over price
-
Oh ok thanks mate. Ive seen them on awesomegti for £20 ex. vat so do you think vw would be about the same or less?
These ebay ones proberly work out the same as awesomegti and ive used the seller before  suppose it wont matter where i get them from as those two seem to be about the same price.

not sure how much they are from vw....
u will also need the rubber grommets and bolt caps like on ur 6x4s in the back to hold speaker in place
-
ok thanks bud  Think i can get everything for vw or find a substitute.
Cheers

Grrr just been looking into why my battery keeps going flat and its because my radio is permenantly draining power
Must have been like this with the old head unit aswell because my battery kept going flat then aswell
-
Hey, i have the same issue - kinda, my radio is permanently on, i was advised its because the live & switched live are the wrong way round, however iv looked and mine are definitely correct at the back of the radio so it must be some where else? Might be worth ya checking it out?
I just make sure i remove the facia and turn it off before i do so, bit of a pain but it does mean my battery is ok
Laters Dude

I dont get what you mean mate
-
sorry about the previous italics bit odd
anyway, i just turn the radio off but pressing the source button on mine (kenwood w3037 - i think)
then remove the removable facia, front panel thing, then it aint on - seems to work at the mo, no flat battery 4 me?
-
No i have been doing that but it doesnt work for me
Gonna check the manual to see if i am in fact turning it off properly.
My dads got some guage thing that you link to the battery and it tells you how much the car is using when its not running. It was using up way more than it should so i took out the fusebos's radio fuse and the level went down to where it should so the radio defo is using up the power
Gonna look for the ignition cable in the morning so hopefully i'll get it sorted. Would be better if it came on with the ignition anyway!
EDIT: just looked in the manual and i have been turning it off properly. There is a section in the back about a function to save the battery with a note that says:
If the ignition switch in your vehicle doesn't have an ACC (accessory) possition, it is possible depending on the connection method that when Power Save is off, the unit will draw power from the battery.
So if i cannot find a wire that goes to the ignition tomorrow, i will turn this function on and use the meter thing and see if it does turn my head unit off and just enable this each time i leave my car unti i can wire it into the ignition properly.
