Title: Might have to part with R32
Post by: DannyBoyR32 on 24 December 2007, 14:18
Any advice please?

I am going to buy a new flat and need the money to pay the new hefty mortgage!! Ahhhhhhhh!

Does anyone have any good advice on what the next car should be? Something cheap and cheap to run? I am thinking either Lupo GTI, Mk4 GTI or Mk4 V6 4 Motion or Mk5 1.4 S or something similar?

Also anyone have any ideas what it's worth? Spec is on the signature panel.

My final thoughts on R32 are "What a Car"!!!

If i were you id go with mk4 1.8T or Lupo gti tho the lupo would be cheaper to run, and are quite quick!!   If only i could afford a r32

Its a sad day when you realise you have to part with a living breathing machine for a few bricks n mortar!! but hey what the hell, the reality of the situation is that a property will appreciate where as most cars unfortunately depreciate. So good luck in your new flat... try not to worry too much, when your back in the game for a new R it could well be the R36

I'd  "invest" in a Lupo GTI. Prices are fairly static for them at the moment and (as I've said before) are virtually a half size R32.

You can't promote French  cars on here

Anyway I think by the looks of his first post he wants to stick (wisely) to VAG

You might want to consider the Fabia Vrs........I have a mapped Black magic version.

Cheap to buy & ins group 9!!

Masses of torque from the PD......like 275lbs, & it's a VAG

He does have a point!

I've driven a remapped one and it does go well and returns a solid 45-50mpg

Claims of 190bhp are a bit ambitious for just a remap.

Most seem to be around 170bhp and 265-275lbft. Which is more than enough for a car that weighs a good 100kg less than a GTI

...

Always hard to value as asking prices are some times unrealistic, however as a guide just bought a 07, 17k miles, dsg, leather (no nav) unmarked car - one owner and UK for £21,400

good luck with the sale - my friends in the trade say jan is great month to sell a used car

thanks for the responses
my heart is telling me lupo gti because it`s perfect for the city, i`m not fond of the skoda although i love the advert as i love cakes!!!!!
i`ve found one i like the look of and i`m going to have a test drive in jan i think!!! anybody actually driven one long term got any feedback on it
i am a bit concerned about the fact they don`t make them anymore, is that a problem? or is it a good thing?
i might hang onto the r32 until the tax runs out but the uk is increasingly becoming the worst place to have a fast car!!! ridiculous!!! tax of 400 gbp and now my parking permit has doubled because of the engine!!! what a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!

I (er... missis )had a Silver Lupo GTI for about 5 months and I must say it was a lovely little motor. Hung on to the corners well, and still managed an average of 39mpg. Engine loves to be revved and the styling really does look like they made an effort with it. Basically you have to think of it as either half an R32 or a modern version of the MKI GTI golf.

Advice would be go for the newest you can afford to as some are still in warranty and try and get one with air con as it doesn't come as standard.

For saving money, get a diesel!!!, one thing i dont miss selling the GTi is the saving in fuel running costs, apart from that, consider auctioning the family, buy a smaller one bed flat, and keep the R.

Yeah but buying the Lupo GTI for example will save me monthly cost plus mpg must be double in that

i know it`s small but is it that small in the back?
what is the mpg in it as well rather than what it says in the press as that`s always rubbish

Id expect to see a healthy 40mpg out of the Lupo GTi.

Come and have a test drive in mine, you would be amazed how big they are inside hold 4 adults no problem and the mpg driven hard low 30s take it easy 40plus.

As I said earlier. The Lupo GTI the wife had averaged 39mpg over the 5 months we had it. So out of town you can expect 40+ and in town mid 30's mpg.

The back seats are useable for adults as long as the driver isn't over 6ft. The room in the boot is frankly just enough to fit one large suitcase in and that's it.

How can you tell the mpg on these cars?  My Lupo GTI - sorry, my wife's  - doesn't seem to have an MFA or anything like that...

I used to do top-up to top-up measurements and calculate based on mileage travelled. That was in my former life when I was bothered about mpg
