Title: iPod keeps locking up

I keep my iPod in its dock in the armrest all the time and use it everyday during my commute to work.  It works fine for a few days but some mornings it just locks up.  The stereo says there is no CD and I have to reset the iPod manually.  Not sure if the iPod is beginning to die on me or the stereo is killing it.  I had a VW iPod connection in my last car (in the glove box) and the same iPod worked ok in that.

I have also noticed that the iPod keeps playing sometimes even when the car is switched off, for example doing some shopping, get back to the car and when the stereo starts it is a few tracks on.

I know the VW iPod adapter is ropey at the best of times but this is rubbish.

Has anyone had similar problems?  Might be time to look for an alternative.

I would suggest you try some of these:

1. Reset the ipod
2. Update firmware for ipod
3. Restore to factory settings and then redo playlists

These generally fix ipod related problems.

I had a similar problem with my ipod on my pc and updating the firmware fixed the issue.

my ipod does that, its the one in the armrest, says NO CD, then you have to eject it and turn the radio off to get it to be recognised. I have just put up with it, but then my ipod is 5 years old and on the way out.  however I now have an RNS 510 with a 30gb internal hard disc, which is wicked!  :grin:

I've got my iPod nano in there now.  See if that does the same.  Might have to invest in some other form of ICE.

Try this http://www.phatnoise.com/ or do an e bay Google. I just picked one up for £40 quid on e bay, it is in the UK at present. As soon as I get it fitted I will let you all know what it is like!

I had the same problem, only mine stopped working all together in the end! I tried my other ipod, same 'No CD' message displayed. I took it back to VW and they ended up replacing it, or some part of it anyway. They said that if you don't use the correct plastic packing bits and the ipod is a bit loose in the dock, it can brake the small contacts on the adapter. The ipod vibrates and wiggles around a bit as you drive around. So now I use a bigger plastic thingy and the ipod is much more secure in the dock.

Mine used to do the same when I used the VW IPOD dock. It was a pants system anyway and so I ended up buying an aftermarket HU and things are fine now. :cool:

Wished I opted for the CD changer now.  My headunit is MP3 compatible and I have tried a CD with MP3's on it.  It works really well and I can see the track names.  Is the CD changer MP3 compatible and can it be retrofitted?
