has anyone else fuel economy gone down a little because of the cold weather? is this normal? or is it just a coincidence and ive got a problem with my car?
i also recently changed my heater matrix which i know is entirely unrelated to fuel but maybe ive knocked something in the engine bay without realising as my MPG has dropped since then.
ive not been driving any differant...if anything ive slowed down coz of the ice etc

Ah but do you leave the car to warm up outside for 10 mins? This make a huge difference to your fuel consumption. Mine is the lower because of this.

Nick
lower consumption due to letting it warm?
-
Oh you know what I mean!

You use more fuel because the engine has to work harder at the start to warm up, thus using more fuel, thus making your consumption at the start of your jounrney worse.
hth.

yeah thats what i was thinking....but im dropping about 4-5mpg so i wanted to see what the rest of you lot thought.
cheers though my mind is at rest... its to cold to work on cars

mine is using more fuel due to reving the nuts at junctions etc to get some het through the matrix !

Mine drops quite a bit, but thats only at the start, as soon as its up to temp and stuff its normal.
I leave mine on average MPG over the whole month (as apposed to individual jounreys) so dont really know how much it drops. My mpg so far this month is 25 if that helps lol.
-
lol naaa not really
my mpg to/from work is usually 37ish
but at the mo im only getting 32-34 in the journey
must be the cold weather im hoping
-
Mine was 13mpg last night, all be it a 3 mile journey.
-
well this morning i got about 1mpg
1 mile before the gallon of ale from last night was in real need to come out

I wish I was getting that. My girlfriends Golf Driver is horrific on petrol, must be 22-25 (not that much better than my Saph') Its also worse than my GTI 16v which on average is 28-30. My Saph Cossie, well im getting around 18mpg at the mo'

Im sure there is. Its terrible. If I take it easy in my 321bhp Cossie I can almost match my girlfriends Golf 1.6 Driver for petrol......i have honestly never known a car to be so terrible on petrol. Checked for petrol leaks, nothing. Im sure its the famous Pierburg carb drinking as much petrol as it can just to pi$$ me off! Im using it daily at the mo' as my Golf GTI valver is getting some engine work done in the garage and using my Cossie in this weather is a huge NO!
-
lol Yeah, there is something not good with that driver.
-
emm yea, I think its the driver and not the Driver, meaning your missus. While using it as your daily runner what mpg do you get as opposed to her? Could be her revving the fcuk out of it and running in 3rd doing 50mph.
-
Its more tham likely the peirburg thats causing the pants fuel economy on the driver ! I swapped to a webber expecting worse economy and tbh it near enough halved the fuel consumption !
Those carbs are sh!te m8 :))
Just my thought on it :)
-
now the freezing weather has gone my mpg has returned to normal!
goody gum drops

Thats what ive been told mate. The Pierburg carb is to blame. I drive it like Miss Daisy and it still drinks the petrol. I put £7 in the other day, it got me about 30 miles  The best ive had from my Cossie is 77 miles to £10 before the light comes on, not that bad for a 160mph car
