I have a cheap Golf2 available to me, but it has a cracked screen.
As it's laid up and off the road there is no insurance on it, so I can't get the screen replaced on the insurance.
Does anyone know how much a replacement screen will be for it?
Preferably fitted in Bristol.
I did search, but couldn't find a definitive answer.
Cheers

I pretty sure just for the glass it is pretty cheap, maybe £50 or so at as guess, not sure how much to fit it though.
-
Screen is about £100 brand new from vw
might as well go to a windscreen place though and you can probably get it supplied and fitted for something around £150 but thats just a guess, it would be best to ring around
the other thing is you could always buy a 2nd hand one but then it depends how mcuh fitting will be
If its a gti though make sure you get the right screen as they are tinted

I got a new windscreen supplied and fitted the 2 rear quarter glass fitted and the tailgate glass fitted with bonding put in for an extra seal for 110 not a vw screen though thats in manchester

you are best off just ringing through a load of numbers from the yellow pages-i got one fitted for £55 which when considering that autoglass quoted £250 for the same job is a quality deal and when my insurance excess is £60 - so much less bother. it was just a locla company though. but def ring around.

I picked up a second hand screen for 20 quid and did it myself, was a bit of bother but a mate helped me and two sets of hands deffo help.

Yo Daimond Hell - Do believe I know of a guy who's very good at doing screens.. I'll ask my mate who works in a bodyshop for a contact if you want..

The one on Nick's car at the moment was bought for 99p and put in by myself. Definitely the way to do it if you have a spare couple of hours!

Cheers for the replies - v. helpful.
Mattneck, if you do know a guy, please PM me details - I'm helping a mate out who's currently without transport and skint - remember, a friend in need is a bloody nuisance!

At the price and condition of this stinker just a piece of glass without cracks will be fine! Cheers anyway.

Some are, some aren't!
I'd say it would be preferable to match it to the rest of the windows but doesn't matter either way.

awesome gti sell them for £75 iirc
blue or green top tinted
-
£70 fitted. I don't know whether it's tinted or not and I don't care!

Just get a second hand one, espcially if its a cheap car!! Paid £10 for one a while back and fitted it myself with my Dads help.... Ive never done it before and Dad doesnt know much about cars took about 30mins...
Or a mate smashed his a few years back and bough a windscreen for £10 and paid a chap in a back street garage £10 to fit it. No way would I buy a new one for a mk2 golf.

Buying new saves a lot of shag and hassle when my time is VERY tight at the moment and it's not like £70 fitted is going to break the bank, especially when I'm not falling over second hand screens, either.
