:embarassed:
The wife is still looking at cars, she now likes the look of the baby golf.... the Polo GTi, (was going for the Golf but thinks it's now too big/expensive :(
Can anyone give me some advice on these or point me in the direction of a 'specific' Mk5 Polo GTi forum.
While Im on...... (i know some of you know everything)
Is the 1.8T engine thats in the Polo the same as the old Golf gti, Leon and Audi?
Also I here it's not that quick 'off the mark but gets more funky once up to speed, i assume its easy ot remap/chip.
Thanks all and sorry for posting here, I ddi search but didnt come up with much,
Cheers

i used to have a really slow polo and used to dream to own a polo and by all accounts it's nippy enough but obviously a drop in the ocean compared to the gti golf
i would probably go for a cheaper option on the small car, ford fiesta is as fast and cheaper as are other models
save up and get a golf gti

The only polo forum i can think of off the top of my head is club polo..
Also..what about the lupo gti? :undecided:
www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum
Dinx

Before I got my golf I was seriously considering the Polo over it :embarassed: And to this day I still think the polo GTI looks better  :embarassed: :embarassed:
As for the Lupo.. aint that made in some weird country?
-
the lupo gti is a nice car and must be quick for it's weight, think it's 100bhp and i believe they've stopped making it now
it's a cool car as is the polo gti but don't get red
-
I don't know.... I drove bosses MB CL 500 and then switched straight to my E30, well, E30 felt like a tin can after MB. And my friends have Lupo (usual one, but in rare green color), and it feels like a tin can after E30.... :undecided:

No its 125 BHP and it goes FAST .. as I found out today while taking my wife's car for a shortish run to 'stretch her legs'... plus it's great fun as some nice controlled slides on a few roundabouts demonstrated on the way back home.... plus it has xenons as standard.  And it looks as cute as a kitten    The new Polo GTI has the same engine as the 1.8T GTI and therefore the same mapping potential. Unfortunately the Lupo GTI has a naturally aspirated engine. :undecided:

Nope... the Lupo was made in Germany as evidenced by the chassis number of my wife's car indicating that it originates from the Wolfsburg plant. Unless of course, you think Germany is 'some weird country' and you wouldn't be far wrong on that either

Forget the Polo GTI they're insipid, uninspiring and overpriced despite the 'me too' Golf GTI looks.
How about the Panda 100HP? Choppy ride aside they are brilliant, zesty, lightweight, frugal and very well equipped. All for a (discounted) 8k.
-
The fact that nobody has one and there's no forum give you an indication over the carbuying public's appetite for the car.
Watch out for this when you try to sell it.
-
:undecided:
Cheers all for the replies...
i think you hit the nail on the head mate..
"The fact that nobody has one and there's no forum give you an indication over the carbuying public's appetite for the car."
i have never seen one of the new shapes on the road, they do seem pricey, but she loves them... think it's test drive time again.
-
But there you go u see.. it's a unique car that [almost] nobody else has
-
I have heard complaints that the older (can never rememeber the MK number) 1.6 16v Polo was a little too slow. The new Polo 1.8T is silly overpriced if you ask me and id rather buy a nicer Mk4 Golf and do it up with the change.
If you want a nippy little GTi go for the Lupo I'd say.
-
Lupo GTI is the better car IMO. Had one and still have pangs of getting another evry now and then. Imagine the Lupo GTI as half an R32 with cuter looks and more fun and that about sums it up.
As for being made in some wierd country, I think that is the new Fox which is made in Brazil in the back of beyond.
-
Lupo's are cute. I'd have one
-
Lupo GTI's hold there money really well also, i am sure i read somewhere that only 600 were imported into the UK.
-
The Polo GTI is apparently not the greatest car. It was introduced in South Africa to rival the Ford Fiesta ST and was blown away. The reasons:
1. It has no fun factor compared to the Fiesta.
2. Its *the poor mans GTI* (Obviously no offence meant. Just saying what I have read)
3. It has no character as a car. dull ride, boring styling, terrible body roll.
4. Its overpriced... Compared to its competition.
Basically every review I have seen have stated that it does not deserve the GTI name. Not so good. Personally I would have one any day of the week.
In my opinion. get yourself a Lupo GTI.

Seat ibiza mate. There diesel range and petrol range just like the golfs really.
Cheaper than golfs also.

People might not remember this Polo I had, It was only sold for a short period before the current face lifted Polo was introduced.
I had a 2004 Polo GT 130 TDI and it flew! It was nicely styled, it had the 16'' wheels off the Mk4 GTI and a six speed gear box. Was a really nice car and it really had alot of grunt, 310nm's of torque from memory.
They were really rare and only sold 500 in the UK. I sold mine after 12 months for £1000 less for what I bought which sort of indicates the rareness of it. Only way you knew it was abit "special" was it had a GT grill badge. It was basically the VW Polo version of the Skodia VRS Fabia.
It was surprising what you could race it against and cos it was styled down people were abit shocked when you pulled away.
Does any one ever remember seeing it ? If you can find one mate on second hand market, you wont be disappointed as the tuning possibilites were massive as its the tried and tested 130PD engine!

Not only do I remember seeing one - my sister had one for 18months until she and her hubby split. It was a good car with decent grunt, but wallowed in the corners like a rhino on acid

The Mrs has got a GT Tdi Polo, she has had it from new. When I first saw it at the VW garage I thought it looked rubbish apart from the Golf style Montreal II alloys but I must admit that driving it is pretty good fun!!
She considered trading it but even the local VW dealer couldn't decide what it was worth as it didn't book!
I must admit though it looks pretty bland next to the ED30

Answer:
Beetle 1.8T

Enjoy!!!
-
just seen lupo gti on vw website
must say it's better than polo
wouldn't mind one of them, as it looks like the ideal city car but must be so tight in the cabin
-
Some like it tight . . . .
-
I had my GT 130 for 12 months and it really held its money, I think it was £14800 retail, and I traded it in for £13600, which is pretty good for a rather bland looking Polo. But the VW dealer said he would have a buyer in a few days - it was that sought after! :)
It was one of the few cars Ive owned that I would have felt abit uneasy driving with out ESP. I paid £500 to have it as an option. It did look mega bland, in the wrong colour. I had it in silver and it did look good in IMHO. But I like understated, I think the GTI is abit understated too. I would put money it is faster ingear that the previous Polo GTI. 0-60 was quoted as somthing like 9.2 seconds, but a car mag about 2004 time (cant remember which one), got 8.0 secs dead out of it! Still got the mag some place.
I would say it is an excellent second hand buy if you can get a good one, they dont handle massivly well, but in the straights you will have so much fun!
Beetle 1.8T bit of a ladies car no ?
-
Yeah, dont get a beetle 1.8T. If your going to get a 1.8T get the Mk4 GTi.

Lupo GTI all the way.
Rare, not made any more, nice styling, good power to weight ratio. i would buy one just to keep for the future, could be classic like the Polo GT40? Okay well i can think of better cars as future classics but when i see one my head always turn and they always seem to be flying along the road.
What about a Focus RS? Now that is a future classic.....
