Title: Strange electrical fault! Please help!
Post by: VW_valver on 15 December 2007, 19:56
Hey everyone, well I've encountered a strange problem after replacing my 1.8 16v engine with another one. Everythings bolted in properly and all wires connected up but heres my problem:

If I turn the key to the first click of the ignition only the oil light comes on and the dash clock, then if I turn the key to start it the oil light and clock go out and the dash lights come on!  but the engine doesnt turn over and neither does the fuel pump prime.

Anyone got any solutions as Im at my wits end now.

Cheers,
Andy

The ignition worked as normal before I changed the engine, not sure whats wrong.

As far as earthing goes Im sure everythings connected properley.

Will it make any difference that the new engine is from a corrado?

Cheers,
Andy

Now sorted, it was a combination of corrosion on the earth lead that goes to the gearbox and also where the earth lead contacts the car by the battery.
