hi chaps, small problem, when i turn the headlights on the heater controls dont light up, so i ant see which one i'm turnin in the dark, anyone know why? could it be a fuse or somethin? Also, the cigarette lighter doesnt work, whether they are linked, i dont know. Any help apprieciated, cheers.
-
Yeah it will be fuse mate, also could be a blown bulb which caused the fuse to blow.. check your fuses and check bulbs on controls..
-
Cool, thought so, bit of beginner so where is the fuse box again? Cheers!
-
underneath the dash, drivers side by the door!
-
cheers fella, gonna go sort it now. One quick question, when changing a headlight bulb, does the whole light have to come off or does the plastic lense clip off or.....?
-
The back comes of, not the front.
-
the bulb is a single bulb and a piece of piss to get to ill see if i can find the guide on the tex' for it...
awesome!!!
-
Cheers chaps, sorted the back light on the heater controls out, turned out to be a blown bulb, 50p later its sorted. Just gotta sort me headlamp out now and the power steerin belt slippage.
-
does the belt slip more in the wet than the dry and give you this horrible... im not going to turn for you symptom??
-
yeh thats it, i started a thread about it b4, people described the exact symptoms, so i'm pretty sure its the belt, dontthink i can change it meself tho, cant find the belt for a start plus aint got the right tools i'm guessin?
-
mate you can change it yourself, its a piece of piss...
im going to find you a guide for it right now....
and the tools you need are BASIC!!!!
On the drivers side of the car is where you'll be spending all of your time.
Remove the splashguard, its held in place to the body by two small friction clips, and then a 3rd "clip" that goes into the sub frame. Just yank it down, it should come out easy.

First, you must loosen the adjuster that holds the pump to the bracket. Just loosen these bolts, you don't have to remove them. You may have to "apply some force" to the P/S pump body itself to get the bracket to become loose. Three of the adjuster bolts are circled, refer to the illustrations below. These are bolts shown below,

the one on the rear labelled up as no. 19 in this diagram is the bolt you use to tension up the belt, you will see that it has teeth on it...the bolt is made up of a bigger head and a smaller head if i remember rightly, you put enough force on this to take up the tension on the belt and then tighten up bolt no. 12 to keep the belt rigid, you then go down to the smaller size on no.19 and tighten this up to make sure the ps pump stays in place... i know it sounds hard to understand but once your under there it really is easy...

i wish i had a pic to show you the toothed bolt to make it easier...
anyways i hope this helps

13445 POWER STEER.BELT-11.5x685 G3 16V 8/92 >12/97 PAS Belt 2.75
13446 POWER STEER.BELT-11.5x755 G3 16V +AC 8/92 >12/97 PAS Belt 3.00
i didnt know whether you had a/c or not... so thats how much the belt will cost you from gsf... cheap as chips if you want to change it...
make sure you have a splashguard is the first thing i would say, then make sure its fitted ok, then try just adjusting the belt as i have shown in the guide, using the toothed bolt to tighten it up... if its at max, then try a new belt...if you have the time, take the belt off and inspect it, if its shiny then replace it, but for the price of a pint i would change it anyways
ok ive done a lil diagram to see if this will help you with the adjustment of the belt...
the view from the left is a side on view and the view on the right is from the front so to speak..
first thing you do is tighten up the blue headed bolt a little to make sure you can get the bigger socket correctely seated on the grey bolt head, the yellow part is the toothed section of the grey bolt/washer so to speak...
once the blue bolt has been tightened up enough to get the socket over the grey bolt, slip the grey bolt onto the brown toothed area, so that the yellow and brown areas interlock as in the bottom left pic...
you can see in the top right pic there is a groove that the bolt runs along, basically tighten with the grey bolt until the belt becomes tensioned, then whilst holding the grey bolt tight, tighten up bolt 12 on the above diagram... this should lock the belt in place, you can now move onto the smaller blue bolt and tighten this up to secure the toothed grey washer/bolt in place...
does that make any sense or just confuse even more??
