Title: I've got a buyer... erm ...
Post by: Cupra Turbo on 20 March 2004, 14:46
Someone wants my car for ?4000.

The buyer, whos wife used to have one wants another... she said she wants a black gti 8v on either P or R plate.

He said he'd have mine for ?4000... now the hard bit.

Ive got no cash. lol.

So, if I sold my baby, then Id have to find a car quickly, so ive searched my local area and came up with these that are ?4000 or under

Citroen Saxo VTR
Citroen Saxo VTS
Peugeot 106 GTI
Seat Cupra 2.0 8v
Vauxhall Corsa 1.4SRI (old style)
Toyota Yaris 1.5 VVT-I (high mileage)
Rover 25 GTI (High mileage)
Nissan Almera GTI
Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec

... should I sell and buy one of those? or keep my dub?

For ?4k, I'd take it and buy a nice ?3k car for yourself, giving yourself some spare cash.

?3000 will buy a very decent motor.

Yea true... but do I want a french lunchbox? or a Vauxhall boy racer mobile?

no .. I want a 1.8T mk4 next year.

But at the moment there are no vee dubs in my area around ?3000-?4000 for some reason.

Theres one or two mk2 drivers ... but the bodywork is shabby and they have 150,000 + on the clock ...

I want a another DUB! ... but ?4000 is a good amount for my motor... argh!!!

I had to travel for both my GTI's, my Mk3 was 40 miles away, and my Mk2 was 120miles away.

You could, take the ?4k, bank 3000 (to save up for your Mk4) then spend the ?1000 on a cheap Mk2 to run around in till next year when you want to get the Mk4.

if you buy a non VAG car then you will have to leave this site  as we would be fed up with the complaints of the build quality/sh!tty styling :-*

buy a decent mk2, i dare you to be cool
http://www.golfsgalore.com/ (http://www.golfsgalore.com/)

out of that lot above^ i would go for the Seat

Seat? what?

Seat Cupra 8v = Poorer quality version of my current car... thats a step backwards.

ASH: I'll buy yours for ?1000. ... only mk2 I'd have... looks cool!    8) :D ;)

cheers :D for a ?1000 you can have the wheels ;)

if you can i'd keep your car, if your happy with it and can afford to then just keep it, like you say youre not gonna be happy with something else.....its a good car...keep it ;)

travel is worth it... i had to drive two hours (four there and back) twice (so 8 total!!) to get my car! was about 120 miles iirc... taunton -> basingstoke

funny driving it home for the first time too.. ya get all the new car excitement outta ya system :) (well most of it :P)

or u could just turn the offer down..

i think that considering the amount of money that your mark 3 is gonna depreciate in the next few years sell it now for a good price while you can. any new car will lose you money all the time you own it.  i guess its personal choice but i hate losing money on a car. hence i buy classics knowing that i can always sell for the same money i bought it for, if not more.  :D

Post by: Danr on 20 March 2004, 17:23
imo u should take the money and buy a mk2 8v for a few hundred 500/700 in that area, unless u crash it you wont lose much money on it then buy your mk4 turbo next year,, also u could put the 3000 into an isa for a year and get more money that way, u never know u could grow to love the mk2 and keep it  ;D

Decisions, decisions  ;D Looking at the golfs galore website that blue pointed out, there's a mk2 8v for ?995, why not look for something like that, run it for 12 months and bank 3k, you would get back nearly all the money you spent on buying the mk2 when you sell it plus there's a nice cash injection for the 1.8T fund that you can add to and it's always easier to save when you already have some money saved, if you know what I mean.

As for the list of cars black ! Wash that mouth out with some on the list  ;) It would have to be the Seat for me too, I wouldn't even want to consider any of the others.

There are plenty of cars faster than Golfs.
Even the R32 isn't super fast.
But as an all round package,
looks, build quality, reliability, holding value  etc..
Its hard to beat a golf at its price.

You sound a bit jealous Marcus,
Just because your golf takes 10 secs to get to 60?
