Title: Ford Focus RS
Post by: Peskarik on 12 December 2007, 12:31
Carscoop has received inside information that Ford will definitely introduce a successor to the highly acclaimed previous generation Focus RS (image above) in late 2008. We know that you’ve been hearing ambiguous news about the Focus RS the past year or so, but trust us; we wouldn’t have bothered telling you about it if we weren’t absolutely sure of the credibility of our source. For what it matters, we did the same thing with the mildly facelifted Focus a few months back.
Ok, so now that we have convinced you about our reliability, let’s see what else we learned about the upcoming Focus RS. First of all, Ford’s performance team, led by Jost Capito, will use the Focus ST as the base car for the RS. The sporty hatch will powered by an upgraded version of the ST’s 225 HP 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering approximately 280 HP.

Power will be driven to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox while the RS will be equipped with an advanced semi-active limited-slip differential, improving traction and handling. Of course, the RS will also get a new suspension tuning and more powerful brakes.

In terms of appearance, little is known, but expect a more dynamic bodykit with larger spoilers along with a new set of chunkier tires and alloy wheels. Same goes for the interior that will probably be equipped with new bucket seats and a sportier trim.

So, when will the new Focus RS hit the European market? Our source told us that sales will start during the fourth quarter of 2008. We just can’t wait to compare the RS against the new Impreza WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

When is FauVe going to release something similar on the basis of GTI or R32?

No doubt they will ruin it with blue seats and a steering wheel from Halfords!

If Cosworth were still sorting the fast Fords I might of been interested. I'd have a Sierra RS500 now if you could find an unmolested one.

Ford could do with their guidance as the current batch of 'hot' cars are less than inspiring.

I've seen a few orange and blue ST's in the area and i think are the drivers that stupid that they bought one. It does not look good at all, has a chavvy image and drinks like a fish! Most of the people i see driving them are either middle aged men or women and i think WTF!!!!

Theres one i see every day at the train station. Its white and the bloke must be atleast 41. I mean is he going through a mid life crisis or what!!

They are common as vauxhall corsas around here!

Its like people paying £18,000 for a corsa VXR and theres a few of them around here. People are stupid and credit is available to them toooo easily!!

No wonder we have a credit crunch on our hands!

Hmmm...

Am sure it'll drive well and it'll be quite hot indeed.

Still, hot Fords (as well as modern Aston Martins to certain extent) will still come with the interior from basic fords, making it feel less classy and quite cheap.

Time will tell.

What's with all the anti Ford sentiment?

They've built an inspiring range of contemporary budget drivers cars that no other mass producer can match. Virtually every car in their line up has an inspired chassis no matter how low down the model range you go.

Puma, KA, Fiesta, Mondeo and Focus are all brilliant drives at great prices.

The new Focus RS that's being mooted will no doubt be a fine drive too, and with the ST being sold for up to 5K less than a GTI it can be forgiven for having a low rent interior.

280bhp from the RS....That would be less than mine then :smug:

I wonder if it is simply an ECU upgrade for the RS for the engine, or will it include uprated internals like the ED30 has over the standard GTI. :undecided: The main spend will be on the LSD and a blingy bodykit, wheels and interior.....err a bit like the ED30 over the standard GTI (without the LSD ), but not done as classily :smug:

Thats news to me. Last time i checked VAG Group still owns Audi, Bentley, Lambo, Seat, VW, Buggati, and Skoda. The've not sold any of the companies the've bought thus far and dont look to either.

Porsche own the biggest stake in VAG Group with shares of 30.9% making it the largest shareholder. "Porsche formally announced in a press statement that it did not intend to take over Volkswagen (it would set its offer price at the lowest possible legal value), but intended the move to avoid a competitor taking a large stake or to stop hedge funds dismantling VW, which is Porsche's most important partner."

Porsche has been working with VW since 1969 and if anything both are considered cross-platform sharing partners. An example of this being the Porsche Cayenne co-developed with VW and the chassis shared with VW Touareg and Audi Q7.

VW is making huge profits where as Ford is making a monumental loss and thus selling off its brands one by one.

Good call Illyun, I didn't know that Porsche had backed out of their takeover bid fo a controlling stake in VW. Would have been nice to see future platform sharing GTI's with a rear drive chassis though.

280HP in a Ford - great idea...

It's called Darwinism - natural selection - survival of the fittest - whatever else you want to call it.  Give Chavs a 280HP front drive car and they'll wrap themselves around something solid pretty quickly and drastically, protecting the gene pool for future generations of classier car lovers...

yes, it does have some torque steer, but it goes fast in straight lines.
