Title: strange noise from 1.8t
Post by: mysteygti on 12 December 2007, 09:15
when starting from cold and the choke is on, the engine is very noisy, sounds like the exhaust is blowing, but its not, this lasts about 20 seconds until the revs drop, then then engine is quiet as a mouse.

any ideas as its driving me insane

alot of engines run high on start up for a while mate?

have u got an uprated exhaust cuz that with a turbo will sound loud for the first few mins....

if there's nothing wrong with it when its warmed up why is it worrying u dude?

id rather it ran a bit high to bring the temps up quicker!!!

cheers for reply dude,

no worry as such, its just that ive only just got the car from the dealer, and it only has a 3 month warranty, and if soemthing if wrong id want it done before warranty runs out, its been to vw last week for dodgy running, then cleaned the throttle body and fitted new coil, i would of thought that if there was something wrong, they would of noticed it, so in one sense im not too worried, just curious as to if its normal as it is quite loud at first, then as i say after 20 seconds or so its fine, quiet as a mouse, and the exhaust is standard, know what you mean though i had a magnex on my astra turbo and that was louder due to the turbo.
