Hi - new to this forum so apologies if this has been covered before.
I have just bought a 2000 TDI in silver - cooking 90 bhp model with mud flaps, headlamp protectors and a nice National Trust sticker in the back window. 108K on the clock so it's nearly run in. Drives like a new car with no rattles and it came with FSH and all the receipts. One of its few little faults is no light in the boot. I have checked the bulb and that is OK, all other courtesy lights are working and I can't find the switch anywhere to check that. Any ideas ? Also any advice on other possible faults to look for at this milage. Cam belt looks like it was done at 70K.

the switch is built into the boot lock i believe; need to take the trim off the inside of the boot to get at it.
do you have any trouble with your boot lock at all?

Cheers - will take a look at that.
The central locking on the key is fine and I have had no issues with the boot not opening. I expect it is something simple. There are one or two little things wrong like this, for example the recirc on the heating does not want to latch so I need to sort that at some point.

I have the same problem with the heating re-circ, mine does not work either. I used to, but then i stopped. I do not use it much/often, but its annoys me that it doestnt work.
Anyone got any clues?

yeh the boot light is a bugger, usual story when you remove some trim, when you put it back its never quite the same! Be very careful of the clips holding it on. :angry:
I also found after drying and spraying with water displacer the usual suggestion to give the switch a wake up, it worked fine for a week or two and then gave up again! i think if it bothered me more than it does id replace the switch while i was there.
About the re circ button, just double check the air direction, as i know mine dosnt work if its upright i.e. blowing on the windscreen, just a thought!

Well there you go ! Turn the controls off screen demist and the recirc springs into life - should read the hand book really....

will try that one on my way home tonight....though I would have thought re-circ was a handy way to add a bit of a boost to defrosting the screen - but if you cant use it in that setting, then thats the end of that line of thought.

yeah you'd think!! especially as the inside is 20 times warmer than the outside! and also who put decided to stop the A/C working below 5 degrees!! no doubt there's a good reason behind it :huh:

Tried the re-circ without the "screen defrost" settings, it still doesnt work.
Its odd, as when the direction is set to the screen and i press re-circ, the icon comes on - both remain on infact. But if i have re-circ selected, and then select the windscreen direction, it cancels re-circ (which ties in with what others have said).
Not sure what the fault could be, but can not get re-circ to work any which way! :sad:
