Hi everyone.
I had tried to search for a MK2 forum and Google keeps bringing me here so I guess this where I should say Hi and introduce myself.
My name is Eddie. I live in Bristol and bought a G reg 1.3 Golf Mk2 just to get me through to January when I pick up my new car. My old Passatt had seen better days and failed the MOT on a load of stuff so I needed a car to see me through Nov and Christmas. The plan was to sell the Golf when I bought my new car in January but I love the old Mk2 so much I'll keep her and get some of the small jobs completed by Christmas - silly things like a squeeking heater fan, leaking membrane on the back door, one faulty light on the dash and out-of-line linkage in the gearbox. Reverse is easy to access if your trying for first gear!
Basically after running several 'modern' cars over the last few years, it's great fun to have the Golf; no power steering or ABS takes me back to the days when I first passed my test in 1982. Whilst newer cars have a sleeker feel in the cab, the Golf has a very upright feel and the general driving position really engages you with the controls - like a car should. I do wonder whether modern designed cars take the responsibility away from the driver and leave it to the management systems to take care of buisness. After driving the Golf, it feels like it. I haven't had this much fun for years? And it's only a 1.3! The even better news is, when I popped the bonnet, I was able to start work immediately as I recognised the layout of the old engine and most of the parts were accessable with plenty of room to work in.
I know mine is not a GTI so I apologies now for being in the wrong place. I hope you can tell me what version of the MK2 I have. It's without any extra trim or switches on the dash. It does have a sun roof which doesn't leak and everything looks original apart from the cd player. The bodywork is excellent. I assume the car has been in a garage most of it's life.

Thanks guys.
Any ideas as to the model of my Golf. I know there are several including 'Driver' and 'GTI' and 'CL'. Mine would be bottom of the range with few extras. A 'C' perhaps??

Could be a 1.3 C, or a 1.3 Ryder. I'm not too sure on the difference
-
It's a CL imo..
Ryder was only around in 1991.. My Brochure says so
C didn't have a sunroof CL i think was the luxury step of the C L was for sunroof amongst a couple of other things, like a full centre console not early pvoerty spec one..
Plus it's a 1.3 so it's going to be CL.. Driver was 1.6/1.8 GL was 1.8 GTI was 1.8 Injected.. ETC :nerd:

Thanks for the reply. That's a great help.
What did you mean by 'full centre console'?

Welcome!
I find my Golf 1.6 a great drive! Much more fun than a Ford Focus (last car I drove...)
Beavis: Looking at my VAG Service Schedule my 1.6 Driver is also a Golf CL ?
Are you sure they didn't do 1.6 CL's?
-
Looks like it is a CL, but they DID do a 1.3 C...

Mine is a 1.6 Driver CL
It says driver on the back, and in the book it Says CL,
Its got sunroof, central locking but no electric stuff like mirrors, windows etc and many blank switches in the dash?
all of that is prob no halp but it might be u never know
Cheers

Bets thats been added on since it rolled out of the production line :p or mine has been robbed of its central locking and elec windows! I am thinking of getting the Central Locking and Elec Window kits, no too fussed about the sunroof.
