Title: new wit no engine
Post by: ho bo bob on 19 March 2004, 16:02
hi all, i'm new! i was recomened this site by a mate ;D

I have a mk1, but it stared makin a knockin on the top end, took it in to a vw garage and they tell me my small end has gone and it would be better to replace the engine, so......

I am thinkin on a 1.6 maybe, mine is a 1.8, will my gear box fit?
or maybe a 1.8 driver engine with a single 45 or twin 40's??

Any ideas as long as it wont cost the world??

Any one got an engine for sale?

Cheers ;)

Small end gone...Hmm...
Why fit a 1.6 ? (a 2.0 is a straight swap ;D)
No g/box probs with 1.6 to 2.0 engines, all fit.
Time is down to the people who are doing the job, hard to say.
Steve.

how much money you got will depend on what you do to your car

The other thing is whether your car is a Gti or not. Putting a Gti engine is not the be all and end all as you would need to swap over petrol pump and tank, front brake and suspension assembly and also rewire it to GTI spec.

Your gearbox won't fit if its 1.3 or smaller.
