Title: Engine code
Post by: JimR on 07 December 2007, 15:17
Just a quickie, sandpapered my block today so i could get the engine code and its stamped on as an XPB, is the X anything important or just part of the code?

I think the X just marks the start of the engine code, there might be an X at the end as well. It sounds like you have a PB engine (1.8 8v gti).

Hi. My 1.8L 8v gti has `RV' as the two first letters? Was there any differences in the 1.8L engines. i.e. PB vs RV?

Yes there is quite a difference between the rv and pb

Your rv is a rare catalyst model and so produces 105bhp instead of 112bhp

Apart from that there is no difference

if you want to up the power though get yourself a pb engine ecu and ditch the cat
