Depends how you drive it m8! ;D

To give you an idea - I use my 8v Mk3 round towns with a bit of dual carriageway action now and again - I'll struggle to get more than 300 miles off a tank.   :oOn a motorway only run I'll get around 340 mile max - if I'm lead footing it, I can get as low as 260 - just depends how you drive!  ;)

PS - Mines a 1998 Mk3 GTi 8v with 60k on the clock, so it's only just run in!!  16v will be different to these figures...

my 96 16v shows and average of 30.2mpg on the trip computer whatever i do to it.

most of my driving is a roads/dual carriageway.  Hardly ever on motorways and frequently in towns.

By the way i mean the long term bit on the mfa.

to add my bit:

I have a 97/R MK3 8V. 72,000 miles with FSH. great condition.

on start up for first 5 mins - under 20mpg.

on a normal 20 mile run involving dual carriageway and town driving. - 31-34mpg.

20 miles of just dual carriageway/motorways - 35-40mpg.

Get 320 miles out of a tank - average 34 mpg.

When warm, if you cane it to within an inch of its life for 20 miles, red lining in each gear and breaking 110mph + and basically driving like a tard about 23mpg.

The problem you get if you have one/test drive one is that the fuel consumption when the engine is cold is awful c.16-18mpg and this gives a misguided view of the sort of average mpg you will get. Wait till its warm, reset funtion 1 on the MFA and that will give you a far more balanced idea.

The average on the long term function of the mfa for me reads 36.6mpg I reset this when I bought the car and have done about 5k miles since. I mostly A road driving and in towns with the occasional long distance motorway journey.

That's from a 95 mk3 16v. I've also calculated it from fuel receipts and mileage travelled and it's seems to be spot on!

PS I do tend to drive like a grandad most of the time though!

Hi

Thanks for the replys. I reckon I am getting arounb 300 miles to a tank. So that sounds about right, I have only had the car for about 3 months after having a MK2 it takes a bit of getting used to.

Thanks for the info.(http://)

Hmmm...

Think it's time for a tune up.   Maybe clean out the throttle body and check some sensors...

I'm spot on 25 MPG, 20 if I beat on it.  And it's an 8v (120k though)
