Am off on my Govt sponsored holiday to Iraq in Jan for four months which means my car will be sat doing next to f**k all for that time. Now I was just going to get the missus to take it out once a week to keep it ticking over but is this the right thing to do?
Its insured and taxed etc but is this a unnecessary waste of cash, would I be better off taking it off the road for the 4 months? The wife has her own car so doesn’t need to drive mine :undecided:
Your views, advice??

I worked month on month off and got my wife to take the car out at least twice a month as if it is left for a month the battery dies. That was in an S3 though as I have not left the Golf for that long so can't comment.
Not much help to you as you are leaving for a far longer period than I ever did.
Personally I would get her to take it out once in a while.

I would drop it of at my home and i will do 2 or 3 track days for you, for free.

Let JoesGTI look after it for you

If you're unhappy about 'er indoors fanging around in it and kerbing the alloys etc then just leave it as is, keep the battery connected but put 45+psi in the tyres to avoid flat spots. Also fill it with fuel to avoid condensdation in the fuel tank.
I leave all my cars like this every winter and 9 times out of ten they just start straight back up again. The worst scenario is that you have to recharge the battery, no downsides, no problems, no big deal.
