Ok my dad was an exmechanic so is pretty handy but how long would it take to take off the old radiator, fit a new one and put coolant in? Is that all we have to do? Is it a full days job and is there alot of taking apart to do?
Cheers

rad is easy mate....
u have to disconnect the 3 hoses to the rad....
undo the 2 10mm bolts on slam panel
remove the wiring for rad switch
remove the fan switch wiring
the rads now ready to come out....
once out undo the 4 bols holding the fan housing on
bolt fan housing onto new rad and then re fit everything above
-
oh and add fluids after too

Cheers mate  doesnt sound too bad. Not sure how bad my rads leaking yet as i havent used my car at all yet but only 2 days now  so better sort it out if it is gonna cause a problem
Have changed the coolant before so know how to do that  going to replace all of the clips holding the hoses on to jubilee clips too to make them a bit more secure

Got a haynes and i leave my pc on all the time anyway (dont ask the elecy bill ) and was bored anywho :embarassed:
They haynes is ok, and i was fairly sure it was simple but i still like to ask :embarassed:
EDIT: just looked in the haynes and it says to disconnect the batterys negative lead. Why do you have to do that?
-
furry muff.. i pretty much learnt all i know from the haynes and ive already done an engine swap and only been drivin for 2 years and tinkering with engines for 6 months lol

It's just good practice whn working on any vehicle. Saves you shorting something by mistake and blowing loads of fuses or worse!
A rad change should take no more than an hour.

Cool cheers guys. GSF have them for around £40 so im guessing it will cost under £100 with VAT and the coolant

-
Cheers mate  2 of my friends have passed this week and after nearly dieing last night  im fairly confident that if they can i can. Not over confident that im going to make silly mistakes though!
-
live and learn ey boss :) ive learnt the hard way too many times lol
-
upto now you've been learning how to pass the test, soon as thats over you'll learn how to drive.
changed my rad at the weekend, to actually fit the parts, perhaps half an hour at most, to bleed and fill, 10 mins...
just remember to plumb the rad in on the bottom hose, fill the rad up with mix (50/50) and then plump the top hoses in, saves time pi$$ing about afterwards.
have fun!
-
20 mins max, i did it last weekend
-
tip for you, take the grille out then remove the 4 bolts holding the 2 air shrouds to the radiator, its not easy to get the rad out otherwise!
