Title: MK2 8V Brakes Issue
Post by: JB G60 on 05 December 2007, 17:26
Had my discs and pads all round done a few thousand miles ago but recently some times when I press the brakes the pedal goes straight to the floor, it still brakes a bit but is still very worrying. Most of the time it would be spot on braking top notch. Its an '88 8v any ideas what it could be?

Bleed the brakes 1st - see if it makes a difference - after that i would be thinking check the rubber brake lines & master cylinder

IB

Sounds like you've got air in the system somewhere. Like the above note check for leaks and bleed the system.

deffo master cylinder.. if works most of the time then sometimes straight to the floor then the seals have gone inside the m/s..

Doesn't seem to happen under heavy braking strangely enough! Just every now and again while driving normally. Will bleed the system first if it don't do it - on to the master cylinder.
Thanks

You can get this if one of the brakes is rubbing on and getting the calipers too hot...it boils the fluid.

I would go for the master cylinder first. A repair kit does not cost much and the job is not difficult. Either way, you will need to bleed the brakes. Do it soon. During winter, you need good anchors.
