Title: Fitting Speakers
Post by: winn69 on 05 December 2007, 15:42
Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone can help...

I have a mk4 Golf GTI Turbo. 4 door.

I am wanting to fit some 6*9 speakers into my back parcel shelf.  In past cars this has been easy but seems a bit tricky with the golf as the 4 speakers it already has are in the doors.

I either want to split the wires from the rear doors or where the head unit starts.

Rear Doors - does anyone know if the speaker wires run accross the floor or the roof?

Head unit - or am i better off taking this out and splitting the wires here and bring them to the back?

Anyone have any advice on the best way to do this?

Also if I was to replace the head unit with an mp3 player would this be ok to do? Would I take out the radio or the CD inset bit above?

Any help appreciated
Thanks

To be honest mate if you want to run 6x9's I would get an amp, have a look on caraudiosecurity.com they got ones for £30. I would also check that you do actually have speakers in the back pods because I actually didnt have any in there. If thats the case then you can have the 6x9's from the stereo but they will be really lame in comparison to if you get an amp. Most headunits are 4x50watts (not sure if the standard vw ones are the same) so what I did was run my 4 pod speakers off the headunit and amp the 6x9's.

run your 6x9's through your amp, and amp the pod speakers off the 4x50watt outputs.

As I said in a previous post, the headunit is a tosser to get back in, just got to wiggle it about, dont be afraid to give it a proper push in though

amp wont go into a standard unit I dont believe, I had a tape deck and that was it with mine so im not sure about the cd ones. You need aux inputs to run your phono's to and my standard unit didnt have them
