Title: nasty noise in Dorset!
Post by: brianone on 18 March 2004, 15:30
Hi, ive got a f-reg 3 door 16v gti. Theres a nasty rattely/rumbely noise coming from the front that only occurs when the cars moving, its not the engine! Breeze volkswagen said it might be a drive shaft or diff in the gear box. dosnt seem to matter what gear youre in though! Does anyone know of any places near me (dorset) who would fix it and any ideas of cost?

If its rumbling, then it could well be one of your wheel bearings.

wheel bearing, if not then cv joint but in theory that should knock.

Jack it up , put it on stands and see if you can hear it when you spin the wheel.
