Title: Electric Windows
Post by: GTI16vGaz on 18 March 2004, 13:09
Hellloo, wondering if any1 can help.

I have electric windows in my GOLF GTI16v but the drivers side does not work it stopped working the other day the passenger side is fine so first of all i swapped swtiches still no movement so i decided to take the door card off and have a look but i couldn't work anything out, i tried to pull the connector apart that connects the Electric Motor to the swtich the connection was really hard so i ended up leaving it!  ???

Is there a fuse per for each side, may be i've blown a fuse, not sure??

or could the motor have blown and i need a new 1.

If any1 could help that would be great  ;D

Thanks
Gaz ;)

there's only 1 fuse for the lot. sounds like either the motor has gone or there's something jammed and stopping it moving. at least it's up. mine will go down sometimes and no come back up  >:(

Also the motor was getting warm when trying the swtich, i wonder if its stuck.

If the motor had blown it wouldn't get hot or would it?

Motors like that rarely break. If you cant see any other cause of the problem and are adamant that its the motoe knackered, try one of these as i bet a new motor is V expensive!!
With the first, i dont have electric windows, so i dont know how easy this is. With the second, i've done it before, if he's nice enough, you should be able to try, or just try it, then take it back saying it dont work...?

get a multi meter to test there is power getting to the motor

if there is, and none of the wire cables attached to the window mechanism are snapped then do as Dizzy suggests and tap it with a hammer while you operate the swtiches

i've had the same problem and its a bit strange to fix ???
basically the bracket that holds the window on the runner jamms the wire into the wheel at the top of the runner. now for the strange part (fixing-it)
take the bolts out on the runner and leave them out
it works for me and has never stuck since (weird)
unless it is missing a stop or rubber thing  any idea's?
