for insurance reasons it works out cheaper to keep my cab on a classic insurance with limited mileage and run another car as a daily drive. the thing is, i bought the cab with the aim of it being my daily drive. since then talking to enthusiasts like you guys has made into more of a project than a driving car and now im unsure whether i really picked the right car for me.
so do i keep it in a garage, improving it all the time, getting it out only for shows or do i drive it, which will cost lots of money and mean i have no car when i need to work on it? or a scary thought of selling it and buying a non-cab dub???
are u guys actually driving your mark 1s or are they all tucked up waiting for the show season?

Keep it as the second car, but you can get ltd mileage classic quotes for upto 6000 miles, so use it on the nice days and garage it for the rest of the time using a runabout for the daily grind.
I am lucky, the Mk2 is my daily driver ;D

I use my cab as a daily driver, and dont really have any problems. I bought the cab to enjoy it, not wrap it up in cotton wool. I do understand why people have these cars and keep them locked away, but its not something I really want to do.
Enjoy it whilst you got it, and try not to worry about the expense.

i use my mk1 as a daily drive, no problems as long as idiots stay out of my way >:(
-
Drive it all day every day.
Its what its for.

I can see both sides to it Vix, I suppose it's down to personal choice, I drive my cab daily as it's my only car, but when it's paid off next year and I've got some money, I'm tempted to keep it in a garage and only bring it out on nice days and then buy a hard top for daily use. I enjoy driving my car in all weathers and like the admiration it gets, but having said that, a cab has no benefits when it's pi**ing it down. But like I say that's just my opinion.

my cab is coming out on the first of april.so my mk 2 gti will have to go.can't afford to keep two cars now, losing my job in december. :(
-
Once my car is fixed gonna be out all the time :D She's gonna be the best so rude not to show her off :D
-
i think the sub concious problem i have is mileage. it only has 63,000 on the clock and i would soon see it over the 100,000 mark with all the driving i do. but like golfgal i really just want to show her off! :D
-
well go for a mk2 for a daily drive and keep your cab for weekends and nice days ;D
-
i was considering a mark 2, 4 door thats kinda why i put up this post. although i dont want to run 2 cars, having 2 dubs does have its appeal. can u see where this is going - in a months time ill have 2 dubs in garages scared of putting mileage on either! :P
-
well i dont technically run 2 dubs as my valver needs a gbox but i will soon ;D
-
I understand the mileage issue, but with 175000 miles on the Mk2 i am now on a mission to get it to 200k
Mk1 is low mileage but am not too bothered about it as am not sure how many its done seeing that the clock is stuck at 57k
Just drive it and enjoy it.
