Hi All,
Had my MOT done last week and the gadgie reckoned I'd need tyres within the next 1-2000 miles. I've started looking around, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions on what are best, bearing in mind the wet weather???
I've looked at Avon ZZ3s, Pirelli P Zero Nero and Goodyear Eagle F1 so far.
Can anyone recommend any of these or any better ones?
Cheers

i got avons on mine the grip is good but the tyres r sh$t they have started to split all round the edges
-
Ive got toyo T1-R Proxes . The Grip is fantastic and thay wear really well for a performance tyre
-
i have Pirelli P6000 all around, they seem all good.
-
go for Conti's, Michelins or the Goodyears.
IMO Pirelli's are too soft and give up grip too easily when pushing on.
always remember that its your tyres that keep you on the road so always buy the best you can afford; dont' skimp
-
I've got michelin primacy's on mine - not the sportiest tyres admittedly but excellent grip in the wet and dry. But the best thing about them is I get about 30k miles out of the front ones and the rear ones are still going strong!

thats what i've got on mine :afro:

hi there, im a tyre fitter and although michelins are ment to be the best the bad point with them is that they are a asymetrical tyre and if u have a tracking problem you cant turn them around to wear them evenly, its the same with continental and some goodyears, the goodyear eagle f1's are good but you wont get a lot of mileage out of them. and with ehe contnental they crack on the sidewalls and are a waste of money. we've found that toyo t1-r are a brilliant tyre for performance, handling, fuel consumption and they last for a good 20,000miles. well worth the money
-
Anyone whos been to Brands will testifiy that my tyres are the best of the best.
They have the L spelt backwards and try to attempt to resemble to word "Continental" and so massive I think I'd give a Land Rover a run for its money going off road !
-
what tread type of continental's are they? never take a golf off road!!
-
lol there not conti's. The fella I bought them off just stuck on some new POS tyres which are awful but where new so looked nice. I was just basking in the glory of my rubbish tyres is all :D
You say not to take it off road, but I beg to differ with mine
-
Michelins....... Over priced.
Avons....... Dreadful.
P6000's....... Ditchfinders.
Best tyre (per £Â£Ã‚£) is the Eagle F1 - By far. Not the most durable (I get about 12k), but the wet/dry grip is astonishing.
They're not as soft as those Toyos', though - I think 1 set only lasted me about 8k!!!
-
Now, I'm running Toyo Proxes TR-1's on mine now and have found them to be crap.
I bought them in February, have done about 9k miles and have just been told that they need replacing.
They also nearly killed me when going round a corner on a damp road at 45. It's weird though, cos my cousin has the same tyres on his Civic Type R and swears by them.
How did you manage to only get 8-12k out of them Ivor? Are you driving down back roads all the time and generally hammering your motor? Or is that mainly town/dual carriageway driving?

Ive had 10k out of mine!! IMO the toyo has a good mix of grip and wear- You cant have grip and a tyre that lasts for years, If it grips well it will wear simple. Plus i get my 225/40 /18 for £80 each
-
10k for £80 you cant complain at a price like that!!!
eagle f1's are good. i duno if you've heard of bf goodrich(tyre used in all wrc) but ive found that they wear the edges right down even if your wheel alignment is spot on but are ok when brand new my top 5:
1: toyo t1-r
2: goodyear eagle f1
3: michelin pilot sport 2
4: bf goodrich profiler
5: yokohama a539(old skool but do well)

O and aland why take your golf offroad? never that u.

TYRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew there was something wrong with the ride on the new car..........When the salesman said "She handles like she's on rails" I think he meant I have to drive on them.... :embarassed:
My (damn it) my wifes car has Bridgestone PZ-1's and I bet no-one back in Blighty has even heard of them.
Boy I miss the cold frosty mornings..it's not the same driving to work in December with the Air con on......
-
IMO Toyo's are indeed an absolute bag of sh*t in the wet.
Think I'll go for the F1's then. £58 each inc vat and delivery isnt bad is it? Or does anyone know of anywhere cheaper??
