Title: Strange Noise???
Post by: mpgscott on 17 March 2004, 20:54
My 1990 8v gti has a weird fault.

When driving along at slow speed I am getting a noise coming from the front drivers wheel.  Its every revolution of the wheel there is a kind of knock or rub.  It dosnt go when you apply the brakes and it appears to be worse as you slightly turn to the right.  It is not always there and you only get it at low speeds, one time it was noticable above 30mph.

Now I dont think its the cv joint as I would have thought it would be worse under hard lock, also I dont think its the wheel bearing as i would think it would be louder as you go faster.

Ive had the car up on ramps and all steering components seem fine inc the anti roll bar.

Shockers are pretty poor.

Thanks for reading and for any thoughts..

try swapping the tyres over side to side and see if it still does it.

sounds to me like something must be rubbing, take the wheel off and have a good look.

I used to have a scirocco years ago, my mate borrowed in and unknown to me, he managed to kerb it on the inside of the ally. every time the wheel went round it hit the brake caliper..... :-\
