So after reading some posts regarding servicing, I had my car booked in at Haysledens Barnsley for its 1st service, time and distance not longlife, as it was where i bought the car from and its 100 yards from my house , qouted £138.5, which i didnt think was bad, phoned JTC 600 in wakefield and was qouted £96.16 !!, phoned Barnsley back who said " only a lubrication service at JTC doesnt include annual inspection", and need to maintian warranty", I said both are VW dealers and will carry out same checks ect, why is yours £45 more?, " annual check, blah blah",,,, arghhh!, so convenient being so close and they can do it on saturday so dont have to arse about in the week, however so tempted to tell them to shove it!

I paid £125 for my first service last week, seems to be a lot of variation but dont see why one dealer would do anything differently to another. Unless he was suggesting JCT were quating you for a longlife service

no the Barnsley dealer was £185 for long life ,the £138 was for oil change + annual inspection.

Service prices do seem to vary wildly - mainly due to where you live.
All the details about services are in the service schedule book.
for t&d servicing you have an oil change (lubrication service) at 10K/12months (~£90) and then an interval service at 20K/24months (~£180) and a bigger inspection service at 40K. All within warranty requirements. The £90 includes long life (504) oil which isn't required for t&d servicing - so would be cheaper with the 'regular' (502) oil - and you'd still satisfy the warranty requirements. Basically you don't have a 'fixed' lubrication service when on long life.
Note that there is an "interval service" and an "interval service inspection". The two being different.
For the extra ~£90 (lubrication vs. interval service) they plug the car in, look at the battery and kick the tyres!
There are also extra bits (brake fluid, dsg oil, spark plugs etc) at varying miles/times.
I think the general consensus is use t&d servicing with a Gti, but with the addition of long life oil as it's more suited to the high turbo temps.
Long life is more suited to diesels sat on a motorway all day, but that's not to say you wont be fully within warranty requirements if you stick to LL servicing.
Phew

for my 1 year service, in london they quoted around £170, but I got a price from my suppling dealer outside of london and they price matched, got it for £145. they tried to add VAT, but I told them to stick it, as you cant add VAT to non business unless stated in advance and the other dealer wasn't plus VAT, cheeky ba$tards.

Ohhh I feel Bad now. Just got back from Yorkshire and had JCT service my GTi. Total cost for first FIRST service at 6200 miles (1 Year) cost me £237.08 inc VAT. Now they did adjust the drivers door as it was loose but I would have thought this would have been a warenty job? I will certainly be shopping around next time!!
They F*&ked me once... but not a second time!
