Title: About to buy a 1.8 GTI
Post by: ChrisWestMids on 29 November 2007, 14:52
I am looking to buy a mk4 1.8 GTI, (not turbo)I was a little worried as there dont seem to be many around there are loads of 2.0 but not many 1.8 any ideas why is it because they are rubbish ??

Also I have been told to look for dropping windows, someone said clutch and gearbox (what I am looking for?) and any other well know things to look for??

One more thing cam belts etc when is it due

thanks

There is nowt wrong with the 1.8 N/A. If you can afford it's worth getting the turbo.

Yes, it's arguably the better out of the two.

Cambelt on the 1.8T is 60k, 120k etc...(going by the handbook). I think some people prefer to do at 40k. I assume the 1.8 N/A and 2.0 are the same?

1.8 N/A is 20v 125bhp, 2.0 is 8v 115bhp
