Title: Are my pedals ok?
Post by: Dec on 29 November 2007, 12:37
Ive never noticed before but my throttle pedal is quite low. Is this normal because the cars i have driven (admittedly alot newer ones) there isnt such a big difference between the brake and throttle pedals?

Heres some pics (not amazing) but im just abit worried its not adjusted correctly or that theres something wrong :undecided:

yeah it does sit low on a mk2, believe it or not this was one of my very 1st questions on clubgti way back when i bought my 1.6 driver

You can adjust it by fiddling with the accellerator cable under the bonnet, set it so that when your foot is flat to the floor the throttle is wide open.   If you adjust it any further you risk stretching/snapping the throttle cable :)

Thanks bud i think ill leave it alone. Doesnt seem to be a problem i was just like  when i noticed.

Cars i have driven have been mainly fords (pile of sh!t to drive) 2 fiestas, one 07, one 53 ( both 1.4 ) and an 03 focus ( 1.8 ) and they were quite different. My mums car is really nice to drive... but then again that is still part of V.A.G  all of which the pedals seemed higher up.

Thanks for confirming its normal

Pedal rubbers are well cheap by the way, cheaper than I thought anyway. Have a look...

by all means check that the throttle opens fully when pedal is to the floor though, you never know you might have a little bit of hidden performance you arn't using

Have the pedal so that when you're easing the brakes on to slow down, you can roll your foot across to blip the throttle to change down!!!

accellerator pedal rubbers were available, but incredibly rare to see.  Sometimes the pop up on ebay.  Though if I were you, I'd save the money and buy some audi tt pedal covers instead, you need a LHD accellerator cover and RHD bracke/clutch covers:

they look really nice. Do the pedals need to be drilled though :undecided:

nope, direct fit.  well, the accellerator pedal is ever so slightly too wide, ideally you need to file the edges a bit!  I didnt bother and its never fallen off, though my mates one did, a few blobs o silicone sealant or something should help hold it on in a non-permanent way.  The brake/clutch covers fit as per the originals, one of the pedal covers has a peg on the back that needs chopping off though, but thats it!
