On a cheap budget been a student atm,
What should i get for my stero?
Listen to rock and dance music, want a decent headunit, possibly usb even, fairly loud and would like a sub/amp
What recon is good to get for a budget install?
-
Need to know your overall budget really, and wether or not you're prepared to buy 2nd hand.
-
plus can you self fit? or do you need to visit an audio fitter?
-
Head Unit?
Spend around £150 and you'll get an amazing spec. CAD have an Alpine at £150 that will r0x your s0x.
Front speakers? Tricky one in a mk2, but I'd recommend going the MDF door pods route, and fitting components. You needn't spend the earth, but Infinity Reference are amazingly well priced at the moment.
Then pick yourself up a nice four channel amp. This needn't be amazing quality, but MUST be from a 'brand name' - forget SPLx and that other monkey poop you see around, they don't last and over exagerate their outputs.
If you absolutely must have a sub, then something like the low-end Pioneer or Kenwood subs in a suitable box will do you proud. If you're into rock, a 10" is nice and punchy, but a 12" can give more low end for dance and R n' B (Rubbish and B0ll0x) ;)
Lastly, don't forget a wiring kit, but don't spend a fortune - you should be able to get an acceptable wiring kit for about £35-40 tops.
Cheers,
James

Rubbish n B0ll0x!
I love that description!

Was thinking around £200 for the lot if possible, altho may go bit higher.
-
Fli stuff is good for low budget, I have a sub and some 6inch speakers and these are all OK, good value for money.
-
£200 is a tough ask for a complete system, but it can be done.
If you are prepared to look at 2nd hand, then I would say that you could probably get a reasonable HU for £50, a 4 Channel amp for the same, then with the rest get a wiring kit and sub.
Take a look on ebay for the JBL bass packages - probably the best budget stuff for the money.
-
tempted to spend around £100 on HU
About £50/£60 on some speakres
Then get a sub/amp after christmas
So any recomendations for these sorta prices on HU and speakers?
Was looking at these-

Having heard none of the current £100 headunits, I can't really recommend anything from personal experience. Instinct would say Alpine or JVC, but the best thing you can do is go to your local ice shop with your favourite CD, and listen to as many units as possible playing through the same speakers, then see which one sounds best to you.
There are loads of £100 units out there - and most of them are well featured:

So many to choose from!

I've go a load of audio for sale in the parts for sale section. Mint Kenwood head unit that was £300 at Halfords a while back and the i-pod comtrol unit. Also got top quality Boston acoustics 13cm front components & brand new 6x9'S, a moulded boot side sub box with 12" JL sub, a stealth shelf and 2xPhoenix gold amps to add-1 multi channel and one mono and brand new (though that one will prob be too expensive!).
