Mmm - i kinda remembered when i bought the car that the first service can be between 12k and 16k - but oh no - within the next 500 sir ie 9200 - nearly as bad as the old evos i had - pure pish! Anyone else had their first service done at these low miles?? This is not to mention it also needs new tyres for christmas too! All this when im female, aged 72 wear zip up boots and am rather partial to a tartan rug on my knee and a wee sherry - comon it's a GTI at least advertise the correct service intervals vw!

Oh dear... looks like someone's been hammering their Ed30     My service isn't due until 18500 miles - although I'll be taking it down as soon as it gets near 10k miles.
By the way, from your photo you don't look 72
-
service is every 10k i was told unless on long life service. i will be doing mine every 5k oil and filter and then dealer for the 10k service
-
checked mine earlier, just over 7k on clock still another 3600miles until service, so 10k seems about right, I don't think they do longlife services on Ed30's R's etc. now do they?
-
How do you check how many miles until the next service? Highline display?
-
I know I'm meant to have left, but still 3 days before the ED30 goes. Just to say I drive my ED30 VERY carefully and from having it and covering just over 9000 miles I've averaged 32.5 MPG so I ain't flogged it. Anyway.... back the point, mine came on with 500 miles to service about 100 miles ago so yes it's fine, they ,must be set to 10000 miles.
Anyway even I WON'T SERVICE IT the oil isn't the cleanest and If I was keeping it I'd change it at 10k if not before in future!!

They do - mine is set up for long life although I am ignoring it.
-
my first service due light cam on at 9400 miles, about right, does seem crap that car cannot go to atleast 12k before service.

Just had my GTi serviced, it is 10 months old and has 6,300 miles on the clock..... not what I expected from VW. It was serviced at JCT600 and the automatically did the Long Life service..... not one question was asked!

Welcome indublin
I think I would have had more than one question for them
First one....What the fcuk do you think my car is? A Mistubishi Evo?
Second one....6,300 miles on long life service is way too low regardless of whatever you say....I want something knocking off the cost....NOW!!!
Worked in the past for me

I am on the long life servicing on a bog standard gti and still no reminder, even though I 'm on 16k miles. I feel left out.
An before anyone puts a slur on my character, I don't drive it like i'm driving miss daisy!!

Unless it's Daisy Duke off Dukes of Hazzard

Does seem like the ed30 is not on long life service - i'll be asking when i put mine in soon - i bet the dealer won't have a clue!. If it is long life oil id hate to think how long short life would last. Tyres now gone too so it's a double dunter this month

Just happened to see her on Graham Norton the other night.....(not a show that I usually watch....cough) She looks a little different now, more like Jennifer Coolidge ... Stifler's Mom
Anyone seen TT of late ? or has he gone to Spain for the Winter?
-
mine's set for longlife service on the standard gti, according to a letter i received
just had it flash on screen service in 2700 miles, so roughly about 10,000 miles when it comes round, expected it to run longer before service
had it a year now, so will be roughly february / march when it gets done
kick it's arse now and again, but only when i'm in the mood to annoy other motorists!!
anybody got any rough idea on servicing costs?
-
Just under £27 a month for me
I went for the full monty of servicing, maintenance and tyres.

Just had my GTi serviced at 6200 miles and 11 months old. £240 (quid) JCT Wakefield. They automatically did the long life service and told me to come back in 2 years or 20,000 miles. When I reminded them that the car was a GTi they said it is the norm with GTi owners to set the service intervals to 10,000 or 1 year (time & distance). I recon this is a smart trick by VW to get all its die hard owners to cough up every year instead of 2.... great idea for making cash! There also seems to be so many configurations Time & Distance with regular oil, Time & Distance with long life oil, Long Life with blah blah blah.
My decision is this - Long life service with long life oil, by the time it is out of warranty it will be some other owners choice!
-
Beginning to feel left out! Now approaching 7 months & 12000 and no service indicator yet. Was set up for longlife which should be 18000. Hope so cos I am going to have to fork out for some new rubber next week. Think I would prefer a sservice bill instead.
-
Long life service setting with long life oil = you have to drive like an OAP
Time and Distance service with normal oil = You are a cheapskate
Time and distance with long life oil = the way it should be for GTI, ED30 and R32

I guess I am too much of a Yorkshire Man.... may change my mind in 12 month time tho
